It reads to me like the media and at least one clueless citizen are the only ones condemning him having that many firearms.

The police responded to a burglary & the resident is out of town. For them to secure the weapons doesn't seem unreasonable. It makes sense to me.

How hard they make it for him to reclaim them will be the true story.

Neighbors say even though the weapons may be legal, they still pose a security threat to their neighborhood.

I must have missed the wording in the Second Amendment where the neighbors get to vote on security threat from the legal ownership of guns. The homeowner is acknowledge by the LEOs to be legally registered. What part of "legally registered" has a quantity attached to it?

If it wasn't IL, i'd probably look at it like this:

Guys house is robbed. It's not secured.
Cops investigate, find 300 weapons.
"we can't have these unsecured, so let's take them into safe keeping"
so they do.
House is later condemned (for some reason, this could be suspicious)
Police can't get ahold of the homeowner.

I'll withold judgement until the homeowner tries to get his guns back and gets any resistance.

Knowing IL, that's when the REAL malfeasance will start, i think.
