Conoco country store
I was filling up my tank the other day at the Conoco station at 288 and McHard Rd. in Pearland. For non locals, it is a convience store with light groceries and a hot kitchen that serves breakfast and lunch. There is a US Post office in the rear of the store as part of the convience store. It is just a one station walk up desk.
Would having this inside the convience store make the entire store not legal to carry in?

Who knows about that place, in there all the time. They have a tabc "unlicensed possesion" sign, I wouldnt worry about it. They are a convenience store, you can drink on their premise on the porch in which case most places like that is a misdemeanor, and they have a US post office store, and HPD is in there all the time doing reports although it is technically Pearland. Its a hodge podge of confliction. This is one scenario where I will say concealed is concealed.
So my answer is if you want to get arrested at a post office/convenience store, with a sign that dictates a licensed person can carry, while drinking on the porch, by a cop that is not in his jurisdication.....go for it.
It would make for a great dinner story!

The thinig is, I have carried into that store probably about 20 times, and while I was scanning the area focused on the USPS sign and it got be thinking.
It is a weird place on Friday afternoon. 15-20 people drinking Budweiser tall-boys on the front patio.
At least you can tell why I asked the question!

Re: Conoco country store
The only way this could be more confusing is if you would ask if you could drink one on the patio with the others!!

Really depends on when and where it is. Re: Conoco country store
Is it a real post office or a contract postal unit? I don't disarm when I go to Tanglewood Pharmacy. I also don't disarm when I go to the Galleria, even though there's a post office in the mall.
However, I won't go to a post office in a stand alone building with its own parking lot. There's nothing in Texas law that makes a post office off limits, but the federal rule is ambiguous and includes the parking lot in addition to the building, so disarming in the car doesn't help.

Re: Conoco country store
In the afternoon, there is a local crowd that sits outside and drinks a few beers. They even have picknick tables on the side under a tree where people eat a few tacos, down a few beers, and get on their way. Local police seem to not have a problem with it.
As I said, I had carried there a good number of times until I clued into the USPS sign and it got me to thinking. Can I carry everywhere in the store, but not to buy stamps?? Contract or freestanding?? What are the rules (if any) that apply? It really is a kinda weird place, but really convienent to get gas in a hurry.

Re: Conoco country store
I think if a CHL holder was arrested for carrying there I would make as many phone calls and write as many letters necessary to make sure he/she never went to trial.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been in the post office parking lot with a gun in my truck. I don't think there are a lot of federal agents around here and we all know local cops CANNOT enforce federal law.

Cleveland, Texas has a city ordinance against consuming alcohol on your sidewalk or street in front of your house, .... just depends where you are. (Section 10.2 Cleveland Muni Code) http://library7.municode.com/default-te ... n=whatsnew" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;texas1234 wrote:Keith B is correct it just depends.
Sec. 10-2. Consumption on streets, sidewalks.
It shall be unlawful for any person to consume any alcoholic beverage while on any street, sidewalk or other public way in the city.
(Code 1969, § 6-2)

Which also brings up an interesting question. I never disarm at the Galleria either--but I've always assumed the post-office facility on the rink-level would be off limits. Not that I really ever THOUGHT about it...but upon actual consideration, it seems that since the facility is not truly Federal property, and it's contained within private property, that I could actually do my postal business there without having to go all the way back out to the car and disarming....bayouhazard wrote:Is it a real post office or a contract postal unit?
