Why does the DPS need to know my employer?

Why does the DPS need to know my employer?
Really, an honest question...
I finally got my TX DL (29 days, quick work there
) so I looked into the online application for getting my TX CHL. I'm really wondering why they want to know who I work for?

Re: Why does the DPS need to know my employer?
First off, I have never heard of them directly contacting an employer.
From what I can gather, it helps them paint an overall picture of continuity.
We do know that the DPS really doesn't like holes in the time lines on the applications.
Although, I haven't heard any flak arising from possible unaccounted history on an application.
Wild guess time,, an illegal alien, criminal, etc. would not likely list authentic employers. They might even be encouraged not to apply.

Re: Why does the DPS need to know my employer?
DPS doesn't really care who you work for, and they will not contact your employer. The reason they ask the question is, they want to know WHERE you physically work. They perform a local background check in every county in which you have lived or worked for the past 5 years.
Re: Why does the DPS need to know my employer?
I understand you're asking about the application but just wanted to say that back when I used to get speeding tickets from them on a fairly regular basis, as I recall, the officer almost always asked who my employer was and wrote it on the ticket, IIRC. I figured that was so they could come get me if I didn't pay the fine, skip out, or whatever.
Re: Why does the DPS need to know my employer?
It just seemed odd to me. As for my employer, I've only had one for the last few days (moved here in May) so it'll be a short list. Thanks to the job, I can afford to get my permit
