Shortest range trip!

Post by rl168 »

I haven't been to the range for almost 6 months and decided to go today during my lunch break. I was all excited to shoot my new 1911 that has seen less than 300 rds. So I was at the range, shot 8 rds and my rear sight came loose...darn...the allen key I have in my range bag was not the right size...arrghh. So I check with the guys working at the range and they don't have one that fits either. So I had to pack and leave since I only brought one pistol. That was the shortest range trip for me :mad5

But I do have a question for you guys, I need to go back to fix my rear sight with loctite this time. At what distance should I use to make sure my rear sight is aligned properly? I have not done this before, so need a little help.

Sorry about your range trip. Since the 1911 doesn't factor in elevation I would sight it at 25 yards and be done. Not much to be shot with a pistol beyond that distance, in a practical sense anyway.

Start at short range and move out. Is this a carry gun or a target gun?

My shortest range trip was 2 rounds with my (new) rifle, which jammed and I didn't have a tool with me to fix it. The range was about 10 miles from home and I just packed up and went home. I was shooting reloads and the case split on the second shot and jammed in the chamber. I was 15 years old and riding a bicycle with my new '03-A3 (DCM) in a canvas case slung across my back. Kind of spoiled my adventure. I was glad I was wearing glasses, the gasses that blew back marked the right lens pretty bad.

I got one ...When i built my first AR15 SBR (short barreled rifle 10.5 inch)I was so excited to go try it out the first time.I had cleaned it and
had it all ready ( I thought) I got to the range, whole lot of folks there too.I am ready to show off the new toy .I get all set up, load up a mag.
Pull back on the charging handle to chamber a round...The charging handle don't slam back...duh.I push it back by hand..look inside the port.
The bolts back...way back.I forgot to put the buffer and buffer spring back in.I load back up...red faced...go back home come back next day..
Now i always take many guns to the range so if something goe's wrong i can at least shoot something. :tiphat:
