Hard to believe

Post by Houston1944 »

This is from today's Houston Chronicle. You just hate to believe that we live in a city with people this stupid. The last two paragraphs tell the real story.

Police say teen's shooting accidental; man arrested

Houston police made an arrest early Monday in what had been described as a possible gang-related shooting of a 17-year-old girl over the weekend. Instead, police now say it was an apparent accidental shooting.
Hector Cristobal Mejia-Estrada was charged with criminally negligent homicide after his arrest about 4 a.m., said Sgt. Mark Newcomb, a Houston Police Department homicide investigator. The 23-year-old was being held on $2,000 bail.
Another suspect, who had fled with Mejia-Estrada, will not be charged, Newcomb said.
The teenage victim was identified Monday as Cuban native Dailarys Torres of the 14000 block of Crosswinds. She died after she was shot in the abdomen Saturday afternoon at the complex in the 6500 block of Harbor Town, near Bellaire.
Newcomb said the shooting was the tragic result of horseplay. Torres was chasing Mejia-Estrada around the apartment with a broom when he brandished a weapon, Newcomb said. Mejia-Estrada playfully threatened to shoot Torres.
"He says, 'I'm going to shoot you. I'm going to shoot you,' and sure enough, the gun goes off," Newcomb said.

Tragic

That is unbelievable. How sad for both their families. And to have that on your conscience for the rest of your life.

Sad, but a good illustration of why the four rules exist. If Mejia-Estrada had been following the four rules it would not have happened. So long as people think they can horse play with guns, this sort of idiocy will continue to happen.

Unfortunately, this could've happened in ANY city as stupid knows no boundaries. Tragic none the less.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

THE GUN

Post by shootthesheet »

The gun didn't "go off". The man pulled the trigger and the gun fired. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not. Like was said, don't follow the rules and these things happen.

God comfort her family and friends.
