The EMP is neat but... Not what I would get as my first 1911.

A full sized 1911 in 45 acp first and then baby 1911's can be baught later.

Good advice HV. Even in 9mm that tiny thing will be a cannon for new shooters.

Thanks LT. I forgot to mention too, the PRICE of the EMP is a little hard to swallow when compared to other similar quality 1911's. $1,060

Spud, I have the Springfield 5in. and the Kimber Ultra II and I love them both, I actually shoot the Small Kimber better.

I like 1911's but my personal experiences with extremely compact and short barrel 1911's has not been positive. They seem to be very picky about working properly and they're not nearly as fun to shoot as a Commander sized or full sized 1911. I'd say try to shoot a compact 1911 before buying one.

No doubt it is best to try one first but I tell ya, those big white sights on my Kimber Untra II sure make it easy to shoot. I'd trade my full size 1911 for another 3in. Kimber in a heart beat.

My 3" Kimber Ultra CDP II is an outstanding pistol, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another. It's completely reliable, accurate, and surprisingly comfortable to shoot. My young bride finds it easier to handle than my full-size Kimber.

I have a Kimber Tactical Custom II and a Kimber Pro CDP II. I'd like an Ultra as well but I've been a little bit concerned about buying one after my previous negative experiences with short 1911's. I'm going to the Big Town show this weekend, I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on one, maybe it's time I try again.

Actually I'm going to the gun show looking for a deal on a big bore revolver, but I can never pass up a good deal on a nice 1911.

My Father purchased a Kimber Ultra Stainless earlier this year. He had a couple of FTF during break in, but once I got him into Wilson Mags he had no more problems.

He shoots often.
