No room for anything else, as far as I can tell.

Post by texasjeep44 »

With the latest purchase I finally got around to redoing the quick access safe that I keep our carry guns in. It is official, there is no more room in the thing to put any more guns. That doesn't mean that I can't buy any more, it just means that if I add something to the carry rotation then one of the current ones has to go to the big safe where everything besides the carry guns are kept. Well that and I will have to rebuild the rack that I just spent an hour or so building to hold what is in there now.

Below is the progression from when I first purchased the quick access safe to its current configuration. For anyone who has a similar small safe this might give you some ideas for how to make additional space to add to your collection.

Six handguns, and 4 extra mags, and two small desicant containers is as much as I can figure out how to put in a $ 40, .4 cu ft safe. If anyone has any suggestions on where to put addtional items I am listenoing. :image035:

When the guns get put on in the morning the safe is closed and locked, when the guns come off at bed time, the safe stays open with guns ready in case anything goes bump in the night.

Just remember shot placement is much more important with what you shoot than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

This small one is simply for the carry pieces that are rotated through between the wife and I. Three in it are hers, and three in it are mine.

I also have a big safe, 40 wide/72 tall and 24 deep that other handguns and long guns are kept in, so I have some other options before I need to start keeping stuff at you guys houses, but hey thanks for the offer. :cheers2:

Store the extra mags elsewhere and you can fit another one or two in there maybe. Or you could just get two more pieces of foam and stack those suckers in there like cordwood. :biggrinjester:

Think 3D. You ran out of horizontal space, still got vertical space left.

I dunno why you lock up magazines, but you could always make a space below or above the guns for them if you think you need to lock them up. Could fit at least 1-2 more guns that way.

Its not so much a matter of locking up the magazines as it is having a second magazine right by the gun in case it is needed. There would be nothing worse than having all the magazines laying someplace and picking up the wrong one and trying to get a Glock mag to work in a Taurus or something like that.

Good job on the setup. I really like the idea of using foam to create a holder for all the weapons. Maybe try adding a shelf to hold more stuff? Im sure a little jb weld or epoxy and a simple wire rack could work. You seem crafty, im sure you will come up with something.

Well, you could raise the pistol platform and add slots for an extra mag right below each gun with the lips pointing toward the back of the safe. That way you can fit more guns and you have the correct mag stored right underneath the corresponding gun. Lets see if I can "draw" it out. Keep in mind I dont know how many you could fit, im just going to take a random stab at things. G for gun, M for magazine
