I'm confused!!!! posting of sign

Post by scooter03 »

Well I went to the ol Doc today, was feelin kinda puny and with the 1.5 hr wait, all i could think about is the sign on the front door. It posted as follows:

STATE LAW PROHIBITS CARRYING
A HANDGUN ON THESE PREMISES
V.C.S. ART. 4413 (29-EE)

After researching I am more confuesed, the TCHA is stating that it promotes CHL. With this article. So Can we with a CHL carry on
the premises or not? Thanks again for all the information.

4413 is no more. A hosiptal is off limits under Penal Code 46.035 IF they post a valid 30.06 sign.

There is no prohibition against carry in a Dr's office if there is no 30.06 posted.

This has been discussed and had/s even some people that have had their license since the beginning confused. Like was posted only a 30.06 sign can keep us out of a doctors office or hospital unless it is a federal facility. That sign was made obsolete when they adopted the 30.06 requirements from what I gather.

Hospitals like UTMB in galveston are teaching hospitals and carry is not allowed there because it is a school.

I'm no doctor but; aren't all hospitals full of interns, therefore a teaching environment.

And Charles, or anyone else, please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main reason that most will post is because of the drugs that are all throughout the facility?

Basically unless it's a federal facility, a dog or horse racetrack, a prison, a secured area of an airport, inside of a school building, a school bus or at an UIL event, at a college sporting event or a professional sporting event, a polling place while voting is taking place, in court or in a bar then you're good to go as long as there isn't a 30.06 sign that meets the minimum requirements as already posted.

Like I said earlier no 30.06 you're good to go.

Speaking of different kind of signs:

I was in Half-Priced Books the other day, I like to cruise in and look for some really old books ever so often, and I noticed a sign on the door that read: "Weapons free zone."

I stopped for a second, chuckled to my self and opened the door and went on in.

Thats a stretch. One that I believe is incorrect. ;-)

Really? I would surely consider UTMB a school. It is a college campus and a hospital. Classes are held in various parts of the hospital and often times on the surgery floor itself. I could be wrong, but I do not feel that it is legal to carry a handgun into the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. I am not allowed to carry there regardless...they are my employer.

edit to add: The quote did not turn out correctly....please read who actually said what. My quote makes it appear that TXI feels much differently than he does

If it is a college campus then yes, it is a school. But just because a hospital is one that a college uses to teach does not a make it a school.

To be honest, I don'e even know what UTMB is, but from the context it appeared to me he was referring to a hospital that is used for interns.

UTMB is University of Texas Medical Branch. I believe it is a college and hospital rolled into one down on Galveston Island.

Correct it is a college and hospital. I know several people who work there and cannot carry.

I might could go along with the UTMB if it has a school attached. But I do not know of a hospital that does not have "students" present in some learning capacity. I think it would be a huge stretch to say that the legislative intent of school would include a hopital simply based on the students, interns, and residents presence for learning purposes. I think it would open up a lot of other places that "teach" that also are not schools.

Not only is there a medical school attached to the hospital, but a nursing school, respiratory therapy school, nuclear medicine school and a number of other courses that actually occur inside of the hospital. UTMB is not a place where residents show up when medical school is over, but a school in which the students interact with patients. Complete with a bookstore..UTMB is a college campus.
