Breaks my heart, 3 year old shot and killed during ...

Post by Scott in Houston »

attempted carjacking.

The guy opens fire, with a rifle, on a family of 4 in a car, and it appears they were cooperating. Both kids shot, one died.

Sick people out there. This situation is scary because even if they were CHL's who were attacked, the outcome would likely be the same or similar. That's why SA is just, if not, more important than CCW.

Bad guys every where, no doubt about it.
At first I thought, well, could this have been prevented if not for the "fancy rims"? But then I realized that there's no limit to the lows some folks will stoop to get what they want. I mean, what next? Are you going to tell your wife or daughter "don't be pretty because it'll cause trouble? With that mentality we'll all be wearing flour sacks. And then what happens if your flour sack is "better" than the badguys and they want that?
I almost want to hear there was more to it than the rims, but nothing excuses harm to a child.

Situational awareness is infinitely more important than CCW.

It's paramount.

The good news is that since getting my CHL, my situational awareness has improved exponentially :thumbs2:

I saw this on the news the other night. It's disgusting what people will do to their fellow man. This was another instance where they victims were cooperating and ended up getting shot anyway. :mad5

It is a sign of the times, I guess, that you just can't have nice stuff cause there is someone out there that thinks they deserve it but can't afford to buy it for themselves. I can afford to drive a Cadalliac Escolade but I drive a Mercury Mountaineer. I have stopped buying brand new cars and just get quality used ones about 4 years old. I have lots of really nice jewelry but I seldom even wear any rings. I have lots of really nice clothes, even a couple of fur coats but even though it got cold enough to wear them this year, I didn't. I try really hard not to draw any undue attention to myself by what I drive or what I wear. This is really a shame too but even though I pay attention to my surroundings and am a CHL and always carry, things, (thugs) can still creep on you. About the only time I really dress nicely and wear my bling is to church and funerals. Get home as fast as I can and get out of my finery. A shame, a dirty rotten shame! I blame the economy. I feel so sorry for these people whose children were shot. As was in another post, guess we all start dressing in flour sacks and driving junkers in order to stay safe.

Bad Guys are heavily armed in Houston

Post by philip964 »

In a tragic event here in Houston, a man and his family was car jacked apparently for his fancy rims. The father was trying to obey the Bad Guys, but wanted to remove his two small children from the back seat. One of the three Bad Guys then opened up with his AK 47, killing a three year old little girl and wounding her one year old brother.

They have caught one of the BG and know who the other two are. Quanell X a local activist, who seems to make it his life to be on TV supporting the BG, is involved. Relatives of the two fugitives state that the BG's vow not to be taken alive.

Fortunately we live in Texas and all three will face capital murder, unless the two get their wish.

I guess I have never considered I might come up against an AK 47. Some magazines have suggested a car gun actually needs to be a rifle, but I have never given it much thought until now. At least I now understand why many of you suggest a 1911 in lieu of a .380 pocket pistol.

my general somewhat informed sentiment is this - 1. horrible for the kid that died, the family, and the first responders who had to deal with that situation. 2. there are a lot of scum bags out there. 3. these scum bags tend to live in concentrations. 4. these concentrations tend to be apartment complexes in the "ghetto". 5. it is truly amazing how many people at these complexes have either owned or rented rims which are worth more than their vehicles.

it is pretty rare/odd for there to be this kind of aggressive carjacking attempt at mid-day on a Sunday - most publicized incidents happen between 4pm and 4am at either bars or apartment complexes.

Areas of Houston that tend to be particularly sketchy are those with several apartment complexes neighboring each other (check Google maps to see what I mean - Antoine & Desoto, club creek dr, Gulfton, etc)

Man, that's horrific!
I love the fact that I can carry and have the ability to protect myself but the BGs seem to be wising up.
These are no longer one man jobs. They are always running 2 or more deep and are almost always carrying more firepower.
That fact really scares me. I mean, how in the world am I supposed to defend myself with a handgun when I'm pitted against 3 guys with AKs??
Stregth in numbers applies and the odds aren't in our favor in these types of situations.
I was actually talking to my partner about this the other day...you just don't see the violent carjackings in Dallas, thanks God, that you see in Houston. I'm so glad I'm far away from H-town, that place is horrible these days and I'm not sure I'd feel safe much of anywhere down there.
I'd love to carry my 556 with me(and fully intend to on road trips) but I just worry about its concealability and accessability should I need it while just tooling around the metroplex.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but my greatest fear is being helpless and not being able to protect myself or others with me.

And more than likely the fully auto type we can't get legally without jumping through hoops and refinancing our homes for.
Makes me sick!!!!

What is even more disturbing is that the race of the perpetrators is left out of the description. In an effort to be politically correct they left out a key component that might narrow down the suspects.
