Browning Superposed Belgium Lightning

Post by CBN Outdoors »

I have a Browning Lightning Superposed in original leather case with orignal manual ect. and I know little about the shotgun. This is what I do know. It is 12 guage 2 3/4 and made in Belgium. I have been told if it was made in Belgium it is a Superposed rather than an O/U. The serial number isn 69XXXS7 which I am told was manufactured back in 1967. It has little wear but has been shot. It has a factory installed recoil pad and is full/mod choked. Does anyone have information that may help me on my knowledge of this shotgun?

What specifically do you want to know about it?

Serial number indicates a date of manufacture of 1967, but you'll want to check and see that the numbers on the receiver and barrel assembly match.

Look to see if it is a "short tang" model, if it is Y or U inletted. Also, for that year model, look carefully for any pitting...anywhere that the wood touches metal. Your year model falls into the time period of "Salt Wood" shotguns.

You need to know also what grade "Superposed" you have.

My own Superposed is a Grade 1, 12 ga., Lightning, Long Tang with original Browning Horn Butt Plate, 26" barrels, choked Mod over Mod. Made in 1959
