ATF study (for ban) on Imported Shotguns released 1-26-11

Post by RPB »

Sheesh what next?
ATF study on Imported Shotguns released 1-26-11

I better get my SAIGA and 30,20,15, round magazines ordered quickly.
They chart "Hunting Statutes by State" to justify limiting capacity
Totally ignoring home defense in hurricane aftermaths and riots and 5 home invaders/intruders.

A Mounting rail, like a Picatinny rail, mounted on top of a barrel is "sporting" but mounted to the side or under the barrel for flashlight/accessories is "non-sporting" how wack is that?

How wack is it to be forced to use a goose gun for home defense in the first place?

And, it isn't just about handguns with bazillion capacity clips anymore.

A 3 shell limit for 5 home invaders sounds about right, just yell "Y'ALL FALL DOWN TOO OK?" in your most assertive voice.
Pistolgripped rear stocks will still be allowed, but forward pistol grips, picatinny rails on a shotgun except on top of barrels, lights, lasers, and bayonet lugs will now be forbidden on your shotgun?
Sheesh, it's about control, not use.

They're going after "nonsporting imports"

Military capacity magazines!!!!!!!!!!

and any and ALL Defensive Shotguns!!!!!!!!

That's huge!!!!!!!!!!!

This idea of only a "sporting" use for a gun being appropriate flies in the face of the rulings in Heller and McDonald and someone needs to remind ATF and all the gun grabbers that the rules have changed since 1994 (actually they haven't changed, just been at least partially correctly interpreted since then).

If you can't ban handguns in the home, why would you be able to ban "non-sporting" shotguns?

I was at Jim Pruett's guns yesterday, and there was a dude that drove all the way from Galveston to buy a Saiga 12. Here was only one left and he paid full price @ $600 but he is convinced that Saigas wont be available for sale after this new ATF rule.

I owned a REM 1100, it was a bit long for turning hallway corners,
SAIGA semi-auto with a 30 round drum in a folding stock, that's the ticket ;-)
If they'd a had one of them for "Night of the Lepus" we'd all be eatin' rabbit now.
Them rabbit home invaders go right through locked windows.
WARNING killer rabbits.

Image Thomas Jefferson would be spinning in his grave faster than a minigun.

TJ and his buddies didn't write the 2A to allow hunting for food. They wrote the 2A to allow The People to hunt and kill bad guys, in particular government bad guys like the ones who infringe the right to keep and bear arms. :rules:

Wouldn't a home defense shotgun without a flashlight be more dangerous to family?

I'm curious who is going to fight this, because "Sporting Purpose" is illegal under the guides of the second amendment. If the ATF passes this, it will require one of two things:
1) A pre-emptive ban on enforcement of the ATF provision on the supposition that it violates a civil right
2) Somebody will have to get arrested and spend about 10 year in jail while the case works its way up to the Supreme Court.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

Those deadly bayonet lugs, flashlights, lasers and picatinny rails are a major crime problem, aren't they?

I did not read through this in detail, but it appears to be a recommended interpretation of an existing statute related to a ban on the importation of non-sporting shotguns. If this is true, then the underlying statute is the problem and it is clearly unconstitutional based on Heller, etc in my personal opinion (IANAL).

Is there such a law that bans the importation of shotguns which are designed for personal defense and other "non-sporting" purposes? If so, how is that law constitutional?

I agree but the sporting purposes garbage has been law as long as I can remember.

Horse. Barn doors.

Is ATF doing this by modifying existing regulations (without congressional authorization), or are they simply doing a study at the behest of a gun-grabber in Congress for the purpose of building a case?

Probably helping the guy acting like the POTUS to prepare for the next speech within 2 weeks is my guess.
