Humorous Pawn Shop Experience

Post by NorthTexas »

Had a humorous pawn shop experience recently that I thought some of you might enjoy (hope this is okay here, apologies if it belongs somewhere else). I was at the local pawn shop that deals primarily in guns and guitars. It seems their employees fall squarely on one side or the other: they're either a guitar guy, or a gun guy, but not both. While looking at the rifles a guitar guy came over to help me. I asked if they had a particular .22 rifle (they didn't), but that got guitar guy talking about recent sales.

Guitar guy told me that .22 revolvers were just flying off the shelves. I asked if they were going to a lot of new shooters/first time gun owners. Guitar guy nonchalantly told me, "No, they're buying them to go hog hunting." I don't remember my exact response, but it was a mixture of shock and disbelief. Guitar guy got a concerned look on his face and said, "Oh, no, I mean varmints! It's varmint season you know."

depends on what zone you live in. north of I-10 i can bag as many varmints as will fit in my varmint bag since varmints are a menace to the local hobby gardeners' soybean crop this time of year, but each county can set a limit on the size/volume of the varmint bag. for example, in Fayette County i can't use a bag that would be small enough to be mistaken as a man-purse. of course, like much of our legislation on varmints, this is open to interpretation and there's no case law at this time... and i'd prefer to not be a test case to set the precedent, so i just use a 55 gallon oil drum strapped to my back.

Although, in Texas, it seems rabbits are never out of season.

With I-10 being the Mason-Dixon line… what are you doing hunting varmint in Yankee land?

i've been known to cross the border from time to time and better to bag em up north before they cross the border and start wreaking havoc in our territory. especially the raccoons, their built in pseudo-Zoro mask just creeps me out.

A pawn shop experience that had me scratching my head:

At a newly opened pawn shop, the lady said that once they get all the
paperwork done, they would be able to sell brand new guns as well
as used ones.

Me: What brand of new handguns will you be able to sell?
She: Jimenez Arms.
Me: Well, I don't think I'd be interested in any of those.
(Trying to be a diplomat but my face yelled "No way!")
She: At another place I worked the cops used to buy them
for their wives. They're good guns!

Does Fayette have a spread restriction of at least an equal distance measurement from ear to ear when measured right to left and left to right? And no restrictions on one eared varmints?
