Gun store near San Antonio that isn't a rip off?
I've been looking around for a Ruger SR9c and checked Academy, Nagel, Dury's, Don's, powder horn, etc and the cheapest I can find is $450+tax. I've read lots of posts of people online buying them for $400 out the door at local shops throughout the country. Also I can buy online, get it shipped, pay FFL and still only total about $420.
So what gives? Are there any reasonably priced stores in the area or even up toward Austin?
Thanks in advance.

The link above is for the gun you want at Buds Gun Shop in Lexington, KY.
$399 + the FFL fee of <whatever it is> and you'll have your gun ASAP.
There's a bunch of mostly favorable reviews that you can read on there.
I assume that you may wish to buy at a local bricks and mortar store in order
to build up a rapport with some local folks.

Every store I have been to that sells any sort of weapon is a rip off. By all means please don't go to Texas Guns/Texas Thunder. That place out of them all is just ridiculous. Not to mention the service there is horrid, too. There's prolly only one nice guy there, but the others are .. well, you know. I honestly don't know how that place is still in business. Just wanted to vent a bit, sorry. I think I saw one of those Ruger's at the BulletHole, but it was in BAD shape. I think they were asking like 250 for it. I'm not sure. It looked as if it fell down the ugly tree.

Have you tried TexasGunTrader.com?
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

Thats funny I walked out the BulletHole this afternoon about 12:45 p.m., as I was walking out somebody was walking in looking for that exact gun.68Charger wrote:I think I saw one of those Ruger's at the BulletHole, but it was in BAD shape. By the way not a good day for me, check out my barrel. I was chrono'ing some new rounds (nothing too hot) when the recoil just didnt feel right. Upon closer examination, this is what I found.

Armueller2001,
I have always had good luck at Dury's. My only point would be that almost all of their prices are negotiable. When he asked $450, did you ask for a discount or make a lower offer? I don't particularly like to haggle over price, but making a counter offer can save some money.
Bkjunk,
I am guessing, just from the shape and old memories, but is it a Browning Hi-Power barrel? Just curious and it really is irrelevant.
Have you contacted Bar Sto to see if they will warranty it? I would love to know about the customer service from them (or whichever reseller you bought it from).

I haven't had any luck with Texas Guns / Thunder Range either. The owners name is Jerry McCall and he also owns a gun shop in Kerrville, TX. I was in there a couple of weeks ago looking around and there happened to be another gentleman in there trying to sell the shop an full sized H&K 9mm used. Jerry offered him 300.00 for it. Long story short, I went in there last week just to see if he had anything new and low and behold he had that used 9mm H&K for sale. He was asking 998.00 on the same firearm that he had just paid the gentleman 300.00 dollars for. I understand that in order to make money a person must apply markup but 698.00 of markup on a used pistol that can be found for around 550 & 700 bucks.

GT Distributors in Austin sells Ruger SR9c for $369.95 plus tax, either color you like:

And they're now open until 2 pm on Saturdays (used to be just M-F store hours).

Depending on model, a brand-new H&K 9mm costs less than $998.JDRFL1 wrote:I haven't had any luck with Texas Guns / Thunder Range either. Re: Gun store near San Antonio that isn't a rip off?
I live right across the street from Texas Guns on Bandera. I mean, I could go outside my house and throw a rock and hit their store. Their prices are utterly ridiculous and the range there is so expensive, it's not even funny. I was in there just looking at holsters one day, and the guy was telling the old couple that you need to get these kinds of rounds for this indoor range. Well, all in all, I heard their total which came out to 120 bucks for buying 2 box of 50 round 38 specials and admission for 2 into their indoor range. 120 bucks. Wow. I saw one of their Kimbers in the case that was an Eclipse commander style pistol - $1,600. I could invest that into easily a Dan Wesson or heck, even a Les Baer. That's just ridiculous. Even saw a Springfield Mil-Spec, plain jane 1911 with GI sights for 900. Ridiculous. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how they are still in business. I suppose that they have a great location, but other than that...
Anyway, I don't doubt that the owners are nice and what not, but some of their employees are just cocky as hell. Especially the bald guy. He looks at me as if I'm some 'gang banger' that doesn't know jack about guns. I just feel unwelcomed.
Alright, I'm gonna end rant. Whew.
