24/7 40CAL OSS™ CHECKERED POLYMER GRIP IN STAINLESS
DESCRIPTIONFEATURESTECHNICAL SPECSVIDEOSPEC SHEETDeveloped through direct feedback from Special Forces teams stationed around the world, the new Taurus 24/7 OSS" is one of the most advanced firearms in the history of pistol making. Built to meet and/or exceed all requirements laid down by USSOCOM (United States Special Operations Command) for its new sidearm, this extreme duty pistol offers unprecedented reliability, durability, accuracy and ergonomic functionality. Capable of firing thousands of failure-free rounds in virtually any environment, whether it be jungle humidity and mud, desert heat and sand, or arctic cold and ice, we packed the 24/7 OSS with features that real-world professionals were asking for. Bad guys beware-here comes the 24/7 OSS in .45 ACP, .40 cal. and 9mm.
I was surfing the Taurus site and was comparing their "24/7" pistols against their "24/7 OSS" pistols.
The OSS versions claim that they meet the USSOCOM specs for its new sidearm.
Researching the USSOCOM site, I was unable to find a clear set of these specs. There is a site called
http://www.globalsecurity.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but since I read 8 articles and didn't subscribe, I can't post the link.
But the closest article that I read regarding pistol specs said that the USSOCOM had specified a sidearm
that would go at least 2000 rounds between breakdowns. The top 2 contenders for this contract were
HK and Colt. HK eventually won the contract. The HK's had gone 6,000 rounds between breakdowns.
There was a statement that this "Socom 23" pistol was the first newly authorized American military sidearm
since the M9 Beretta about 1984.
Nowhere in the "HK vs. Colt" Socom competition was Taurus mentioned. The Taurus 24/7 OSS pistols have a
higher price point than the standard 24/7 line.
Does anyone have any more insight into the USSOCOM sidearm competition?
FYI - The USSOCOM is based out of McDill AFB in Tampa, FL and commands many special forces.
These forces had complained that the M9 Beretta didn't have sufficient stopping power and they wanted a .45.

I think that is several years old, the MK 23 was from another .MIL deal back in the mid 90s.
