SIG failure

Today I was teaching an individual CHL renewal class. When the student and I arrived at the range he took out a new p250. I looked over the gun to be assured it was in good working order. On his second shot he had a double feed. He tried to clear it but was unsuccessful. I took the pistol and cleared the magazine from the gun and then attempted to clear the empty. It wouldn't come out then I noticed his extractor was gone! He had another gun and we switched to it looking on the concrete firing line I found what was left of his extractor. He told me the gun had only 100 rounds through it before today. It's going back to SIG. Moral of the story - - - no matter what brand of gun you have they can break - - - no matter how new a gun is it can break - - - put a bunch of rounds through any gun before you trust your life to it. Mr. Murphy never sleeps. :evil2: My student said he was glad it happened on the range and not if he was using the gun for self defense. I really had to agree with him. :thumbs2:

It seems that hauling around a BUG all the time is a major hassle, until I read a story like this. Even a little .22lr as a back up would sure be good to have in an event like this.

If I am not mistaken the P250 is the same model the ATF rejected due to reliability issues leaving them a choice between Glock and the M&P, which I believe the M&P won...

Really? I had no idea. Nothing against Glocks. We own one, and they are great pistols, but I love my M&P, and I wasn't aware that any agencies had selected it as their standard duty weapon.

...backup gun's a good cure for that sick feeling in your gut when you hear click instead of bang...makes it worth the inconvenience if it only happens one time...

...are the parts made by MIM the majority of those breaking these days or not???

I own 2 p-250,s. The early modals had some ejector issues.
Sig will make good on fixing the problem.
This is a great gun for those that like DAO.
Bruce Gray with http://www.grayguns.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is going to compete with one in the Bianchi Cup. Bruce is an advid 1911 compitiion shooter and a great gunsmith.
The P-250 has passed the torture test with several agency's.
Somtimes the selection process can be political.

That's exactly why a .32 Seecamp with Silvertips sits in my front pocket, to back up my Glock (soon to be XD45), well that and the fact that the .380 Seecamp is too costly.

Murphey's law ..... "and at the worst possible time."

I think the way these trials usually work is that the agency evaluates several guns and see which meet their standards--in this case both M&P and Glock did. They then usually choose to adopt whichever of the guns is cheaper. That's how the military ended up with the Beretta 92 rather than the SIG P226.

Like I said before since Sig started production in the US their products have gone down the drain. I'm sure someone is gonna post after me that their Sig with 2k rounds has been flawless

The North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issue the M&P along with quite a few other agencies who want to jump on the state bid. The NCSHP uses the .357SIG and CMPD uses the.40S&W (as they have since adopting the S&W 4046 in 1991).
