rear sight laser?

Post by bigmoney »

Has anybody tryed these rear sight lasers? I'm looking for another option than a laser on the front rail. Crimson grips were a thought, then I see that you can't have an ambi-safety either, which i have. And I haven't yet found a repalcement single sided safety for an m&p compact. So I wanted some others opinions to the RSL. They seem bulky for something that's attached to the sight, and possibly a little obstructing of view. Then there's the on/off push button. Looks easy for it to accidently be turned on, and only lasts for an hour on three watch batteries. Also having a thumb safety, it's an extra step after pushing the safety to use the same thumb to turn the laser on. decisions, decisions. Not sure I like it yet, but any thoughts?

Friend had one (Laserlyte) and what I found annoying was the red "ON" light in you face that distracted you from focusing on the laser dot. He blacked his out with paint finally, and that was better. Other than that, it worked fine. I prefer lasers that are pressure activated though.

As for the ambi safety (1911?) with CT grips, you can get the cut down left safety installed so it wont interfere, or modify the left grip yourself.

I don't particularly care for the rear sight laser systems. My main concern is the violent action that the slide experiences could cause them to loose their zero or cause them to malfunction. I prefer the guide rod lasers (LaserMax) or the grip lasers (Crimson Trace), or the trigger guard lasers (Crimson Trace). Regarding the CT grip lasers on the 1911s with ambi-safeties, CT has a new product line with a smaller laser emitter that will clear the ambi-safety.
