My brother has a Sig that I want to buy from him and have shipped from VA to TX. Does it need to be through an FFL?

Just clarifying, all firearms can be shipped by an individual to an FFL. It is up to the policy of the FFL whether or not to receive firearms from a non FFL. This includes both rifles and handguns.03Lightningrocks wrote:Most FFL's in Texas are only charging 20 bucks or so and they can ship cheaper than you, so you end up spending about the same money. He will have to find an FFL on his end to ship it to the FFL on this end. I assume it is a hand gun. Rifles can be shipped by anyone to an FFL.
You are correct. The post office will not let a non-FFL ship a handgun and I have gotten into such a habit of shipping handguns through an FFL that I confused the issue. Shipping a handgun by other carriers always seemed to be more expensive than just paying an FFL to ship through the post office. Rifles, on the other hand, can be shipped by a non-FFL through the post office. Thank you for clearing that up.Rebel wrote:Just clarifying, all firearms can be shipped by an individual to an FFL. The FFL on the other end can probably ship it for $25. If you walk into FedEx its going to cost you $65 or so.Rebel wrote:Just clarifying, all firearms can be shipped by an individual to an FFL. Yep. Last gun I shipped for warranty repair was $63. Fedex required it to be shipped priority overnite. Of course I told them it was a gun. If you choose to say it is parts then it will cost you less than $20. But I like to sleep good at night so I do my best to abide by the policies of whatever entity I am dealing with at the time.Bullwhip wrote:The FFL on the other end can probably ship it for $25. I have shipped a few times and it is cheaper to go through a FFL as they get to use USPS.jmra wrote:Yep. Last gun I shipped for warranty repair was $63. Ill never understand that attitude that some FFLs seem to have. Not only are they losing a customer they are also telling you to break the law.jmra wrote:Rebel,
I tried going through my local gun shop - They wouldn't ship it. Told me to box it up and play dumb with Fedex. I had already read the policies for both Fedex and UPS so I was not willing to follow that advice.
I guess I need to establish a relationship with a local FFL - guess that means buying a few more guns.
Some of the gun shops act as if any firearm sell that is not at a gun shop is a threat to their business. Maybe others feel the effort involved is not worth what most folks are willing to pay. I would recommend you look in the FFL Topic for an FFL that will assist you. There are several listed.Rebel wrote:Ill never understand that attitude that some FFLs seem to have. Now next time you're thinking of purchasing a firearm or anything else related, you'll remember that they wouldn't give you service, because they didn't want to be hassled with your low profit transaction.
