Texas is the only shall inform state for law enforcement. If you go into a private residence in Arkansas you must inform the homeowner before entering. Missouri is an open carry state, but some towns can restrict it by local ordinance, so would recommend keep concealed unless you know for sure the area is open carry friendly.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams
Re: Traveling
Oops, Arkansas and Oklahoma ARE shall inform states, so you must tell them. Also, visitor information centers are off-limits in Arkansas as well as some buildings in state parks in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Additionally, churches are off-limits in Arkansas and Missouri.
And, Springfield is off-limits for open carry for sure.
Also, lots of rain up that way, so watch for flooded areas. Major issues with flooding in Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri right now.

What's the fee to bring it all the way to Houston?

Re: Traveling
I go to Springfield several times a year; it's legal to OC there and it's one of the gun-friendliest places in the Ozarks I know of in terms of the general populace. In terms of CC'ing with your Texas permit, Missouri has a very, very good system of gun-free-zones: there's a list of places defined in statute where you're not supposed to carry concealed, but then follows it up by saying carrying there is non-criminal, and is only enforceable if you're specifically told to leave and don't, and a cop must be called, and then it's a trivially small fine. You can double-check my math here - http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/C500-599/5710000107.HTM Edit - Missouri is NOT shall-inform, and you don't need a permit to carry concealed in your vehicle, either. Edit #2 - You'll be going through Branson, which is one of the cities were OC isn't legal. I'm pretty sure it's the only such city along 65 heading to Springfield.
If you have a little bit of free time, I really recommend going to visit the Bass Pro Shops in Springfield. It's the corporate headquarters store, and there's a nice indoor animal exhibit with alligators, pike, turtles, gar, and many other things. And you can drool at their fine gun room, even if you're like me and can't afford them even when asleep!

Was misinformed on Springfield, but forgot about Branson. I haven't tied to open carry in that area though. Have you open carried in Bass Pro?denwego wrote:I go to Springfield several times a year; it's legal to OC there and it's one of the gun-friendliest places in the Ozarks I know of in terms of the general populace. Re: Traveling
I have indeed. They have signs stating that guns brought in for service, holsters, etc, need to be checked, but that guns carried legally for protection don't need to be. The first time I went, I carried concealed until I saw someone else carrying openly, then manned up and uncoveredKeith B wrote:Was misinformed on Springfield, but forgot about Branson. Re: Traveling
Good to know. I may end up going to Springfield for my nephew's college graduation. Might carry in Bass Pro for fun, but probably won't. I lived in Missouri for 38 years, and travel back to see family frequently. Even though it's legal in my hometown, I only open carried on private property, when target shooting or hunting, or in uniform. Even before the concealed carry law was passed.denwego wrote:I have indeed. The last time I was there, the Marines were doing their Christmas toy drive and two of them nodded and smiled as I walked by, and that's been the only redaction I've ever gotten in Springding.
