SA Logo on new Ultra Compact Slide - SOLVED

Post by AEA »

Well, I must really be loosing it........... :smilelol5:

Was looking over my new Springer Ultra Compact .45acp (NOT Micro) with a jewelers loop and found what I think is a manufacturing error. I would like any others that have the same gun (or even similar guns with logo on Slide) to chime in on what they see on the Slide Logo.

Here's the deal......
We all know what the Springer logo looks like (it is all over the Web). We also know what the same logo looks like on their Grips on many of their 1911's. Attached is a Black & White image of that Logo for comparison to the 2nd attachment (UC Slide.jpg) which is the stamped logo on my new Ultra Compact.

I thought I was seeing things......I got out the loop and sure enough the two logos are not only different in appearance (bottom different) but the Slide stamp has the date of 1974!

The date on the standard Springer Logo is 1794 and is what is on the Logo on the grips and the attached standard SA Logo.jpg.

So what's the deal with this date of 1974 on my UC Slide? Should I complain/notify Springfield?

EDIT: Thanks AndyC and all who replied/ :tiphat:

AndyC is correct. Other than borrowing the name, the company has no relationship with the original Springfield Armory, now a historic site managed by the National Park Service.

AndyC is correct, and my V10 Ultra Compact, mfg in 1999, has the same logo as yours.

Thanks guys......

A little more research got me up to speed:

"In 1974, the Springfield Armory name was used by Robert Reese, to form Springfield Armory, Inc., a new company to manufacture semi-automatic versions of the M14 rifle. The company is not located near the former armory site and has no association with the authentic Springfield Armory but rather is in Geneseo, Illinois."

"Springfield Armory, now run by Dennis Reese and Tom Reese, manufactures and imports dozens of different firearms of many styles and models. The company's motto, "The First Name in American Firearms" refers to the usage of the Springfield Armory name and trademarks acquired by Balance and later transferred to the Reeses. There is no other connection between the institutions, though marketing materials often make reference to the federal armory."
