PSA: Found a great CC jacket for summer

Post by MadMonkey »

Dickies are great, but I found another cool piece of equipment...

I ran across it while Googling around the Internet looking for new concealed carry options. I was annoyed because I couldn't find anything that would allow me to carry OWB in the summer; at least not comfortably. I'm not a small guy (5'11" and 205lbs, trying to lose 50!) so most carry options don't work that well... if I had a muffin top, my clothing would drape of the gun a little better, and if I was skinny, the gun would tuck into my waist. Unfortunately I'm pretty much slabsided right now, so a bulge on the side is A BULGE ON THE SIDE (and about that obvious!).

But enough about me. I saw a guy on another forum who suggested this:

http://www.zahal.org/products/bodyguard-jacket-shabak" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, in a moment of weakness (I have a lot of those) I ordered one. I usually wear a large, but it was suggested that they're sized pretty small so I got an XL (luckily!). I ordered on the 2nd of this month, and it came in today... 2 weeks on the dot (standard postal from Israel).

My first impression wasn't that great, because it came in a tiny package, which led me to believe it was much thinner than I was hoping. I was wrong though... it's actually reasonably thick material, and feels fairly sturdy. It has four pockets on the front, and a moneyclip/cellphone/etc pocket on the inside with a pen pocket next to it.

I just gave it a test run to the local burger joint, and I have to say I'm very pleased. My OWB USPc 9MM disappeared under it, and nobody went running and screaming, which was a good sign. Even bending and other movements that would usually cause some printing seemed to be toned down a lot.

Here's a bad cell phone pic of me in it:

It was comfortable in today's mid-80's temps, and felt like it would be fine up through the 90's too. It's really exactly what I was wanting... a short-sleeve cover garment that doesn't really stand out a lot, and works the way I want it to. It's nice enough that I won't feel out of place in any of the places I usually go.

Looks like it's going to be one of my most-worn pieces of clothing :cheers2:

God bless Israel for stuff like this!

Remember, if you do decide to order one, order at least a size larger than you normally wear. Mine is VERY close to being too small, but it's perfect.

Thanks for the good info! Would any of the pockets work for a mouse gun?

It's POSSIBLE, but being fairly light I think it would tend to make the whole thing unbalanced unless you were buttoning it up.

EDIT: I just threw it on to try it out. My LCP in a pocket holster dangles pretty badly unbuttoned. While buttoned, it works pretty well but it's still obvious (to me) that there's something in the pocket. Without the pocket holster, it really sits flat in the pocket.... if there was a custom holder or the pocket was modified to hold the pistol upright, I think it would work well, especially if a couple of spare mags were in the other pocket to balance it out.

I'm not sure what it is... the tag is in Hebrew "rlol" It does say "something" 65% and "something" 35% though.

I've never seen one locally, though 5.11 supposedly makes good conceal carry shirts that work well. I don't own one, so I don't know how they are compared to this. Some guys wear Dickies work shirts for concealment, but again, I don't have experience with them.

According to http://www.israelmilitary.com/bodyguard ... -1804.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The material is Polyester/Rayon (Viscose)

Thanks for the suggestion on 5.11... but I like the look of this shirt.. would like to try one on..
I have a personal beef against Dickies, so, they're out.. No need for details, it'd be too boring. ;-)

I hope that doesn't violate Leviticus 19:19. ;-)

Hmm, that one looks slightly different (3 pockets instead of 4). Probably the same construction though.

I'm 5'10" and 180. Do you think a large would work for me?

I would think that since an X-large is aaaaalmost too small for me, it would be ideal for you. They recommend a size larger than what you usually wear though, so if you wear a medium you might get away with it. I honestly don't know though, XL was just my best guess for me and I got lucky.

Down here in the swamps it's just too hot to wear two layers of anything.

This is the best CC shirt I've yet to find.

NRA sells them with their logo for more money.

If you google search you can often find them for less than $30.

Super lightweight and cool, no ironing, fake button helps clearing.

I bought five of them and LOVE them. :cheers2:

I'm 5'10", 200 and the XL's are plenty big enough to cover OWB and not bind my shoulders.

Just don't ever put them in the dryer.

The magnets stick to the back of the door, and they get twisted like a braided rope. :oops:

I pull mine out of the washer, hang them in the garage, and they dry quickly with no wrinkles.

Seem to be made well. I've been wearing mine for several months now with no signs of wear.
