It's because of Obama. The evidence is irrefutable.

It's pretty simple, actually.

As John Lott has observed: More guns, less crime.

Guns in the right hands (law abiding citizens) lowers crime, at least that's my view of things.

Are San Antonio's local gun laws that bad, and that's why they saw an increase of violent crimes?

Still, I, too, am baffled as to why this occurs.

Can you elaborate? I'm not familiar with what's going on in San Antonio.

I think San Antonio has some ordinances against handguns in certain places. Not sure.

Someone who lives there should know more.

This is generally true IF those weapons are in the hands of law abiding citizens. Unfortunately, there are TWO "gun cultures" in America. One that owns uses firearms (LAWFULLY)...(for various reasons) and then...those that use them (UNLAWFULLY) to commit crimes.

Of those two, the media....most often covers stories related to the illegal use of a firearm (or some other tragic event/accident). When was the last time you saw the responsible use of a firearm aired on television?

The truth is....society is slowly being conditioned to believe that: Guns= Bad!

It is an educational process that we are losing! :???:

I was under the impression that Texas was preemptive in nature when it came to firearms laws? I did not think that municipalities could have and enforce more restrictive ordinances than what is on the books with the state.

I believe your comment was in jest. However, I really do think that Obama deserves credit for the recent drop (last couple years).

Obama's anti-gun beliefs led to a huge surge in gun ownership among law abiding citizens. This in turn led to lower crime. As much as I dislike the man, you have to give credit where credit is due.

As far as San Antonio, I believe that they have a bit of an anti-gun culture there as evidenced by the prevalence of 30.06 and "gun buster" postings, among other things. This may well contribute to the increased crime rates in that city. The increased rates in NYC should be obvious.

Ditto...

A city ordinance cannot over ride state law... At least that's what I thought.

Coincides well with abortion actually. Freakonomics has a fairly decent discussion of the subject.
