Find reliable guns boring? The Highpoint C9 pistol's for you.

The Highpoint C9 pistol is $155, but even for a chunky cheapster, this is not a gun
on which to rely for self defense purposes.

The reviewer intended to use it for a high round endurance/torture test, but it had
so many problems, he couldn't get there.

Highpoint is not known for reliability. To me its a 155 dollar boat anchor. A coworker uses one as a duty weapon...lets just say I will not buy one. I did fire his at the range and had to run a malfunction drill every other time I placed my finger on-the-job trigger.

Is there any chance that you can prevail upon your friend to improve his service weapon?

From my various reading here on the forum and elsewhere, it seems that the only consistently
unreliable guns are Jimenez Arms, Highpoints (although member dewaynedward, IIRC had one
that worked), and Diamondback .380's.

It would seem that if he stayed away from those, that any fresh gun purchased would be a more
reliable firearm.

Tell your coworker to take a pair of pliers to the lips of the magazines that bend inward and pull them out just a tad. This will solve alot of the feed problems encountered with hipoints. I own the .40S&W version. Let's just say it is worth all $155 dollars. I keep it by the front door so if I answer the door and somebody forces their way in I can bash them over the head with it.

I take it to the range and shoot it and don't really have any problems now that I've adjusted the magazines. But I would still not trust my life or anybody else's to it.

If you compare it to any of the other .40s out there its a terrible gun. But when you look at the price and the gun by itself its not so bad. I think it was designed for poor people in poor neighborhoods with high crime rates to keep at home. I bought mine when I couldn't afford anything else and my neighborhood had gone to poop. I've since moved on, but I still have it.

Yep 40k that's his story more or less. He got his because that's what he could afford to spend.

I used to have a Highpoint 45. Like what was said above, the magazines caused some reliability issues. Once I fixed the magazines, it was as reliable as any other gun I have had. And for some reason, I shot it better than any other handgun I have ever shot including 1911s. Not exactly concealable however.
