Houstonian Pleads Guilty In Taliban Conspiracy
HOUSTON -- A Houston man pleaded guilty after he and a Pakistani living illegally in the United States were charged with conspiring to join the Taliban and fight against U.S. forces, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.
U.S. Attorney Donald J. DeGabrielle Jr. said a four-count indictment charges Kobie Diallo Williams, also known as Abdul Kabir, and Adnan Babar Mirza with conspiracy. Mirza, a 29-year-old Pakistani who overstayed a student visa, also is charged with three counts of violating federal firearms laws.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure everyone has seen this so far...
If you watch the recent coverage, you'll notice that the American Shooting range in Houston is noted as a place where they are alleged to have received "training" in preparation to joining up in support of operations against American forces overseas...blah blah blah...
The obvious questions are:
"What federal firearm laws were violated?"
and
"Who's training these people?" (I am sure they may either be self taught, or total goobers to begin with)
All of this just kinda brings it too close to home in my opinion...Literally...

Well, since they were both illegal immigrants, any firearms they have would be considered illegal, right? This is just another example of how, despite gun control laws, criminals will STILL get guns. It also promotes the illegal immigrant debate to a higher level. Now we actually have an immigrant that got lost in the system and was in fact wanting to be a terrorist.stevie_d_64 wrote: "What federal firearm laws were violated?"
My solution:
If you are here on a student visa or it has expired, you are found and shipped home. Then we can find the stragglers and send them on their way. Then, after about a year or so of rounding them all up, we allow them to reapply. Only this time, we limit the number allowed and track their every move. They are not U.S. citizens and don't have any inherent privacy rights entitled thereto. And the second they demand the same rights as a citizen, they are given two options. Stay here, denounce their citizenship and take the test to become nationalized, or... pick their mode of transportation back home, cuz they ain't stayin here. Denouncing ones citizenship is a matter of pride, and luckily the ones that wish to do us harm will never do such a thing. So we really don't have to worry about a nationalized terrorist.

"The two then underwent at least eight sessions of firearms and/or reconnaissance training around Harris County, which surrounds Houston, and other area counties."
I have to admit, I'm curious about the details.
"He believed the money he had donated was going to families of the Taliban. He said neither man had any real contact with terrorist groups. He would not confirm whether the two had met with undercover agents posing as members of the Taliban."
Sounds like it was almost certainly an undercover operation.

Don't bet on it. Several U.S. citizens have been charged with terrorism, and in the U.K. citizens have actually committed terrorist acts. Sociopaths will lie without a second thought.kauboy wrote:Denouncing ones citizenship is a matter of pride, and luckily the ones that wish to do us harm will never do such a thing. "real contact"..."...neither man had any real contact with terrorist groups. He would not confirm whether the two had met with undercover agents posing as members of the Taliban."
So they meet with someone and have a cup of coffee, chat about "stuff"...And since we don't know (or ever will know) what "stuff" they talked about or to whom...Thats not anything like "real contact"...
The fact that they will not confirm (for probably good reasons) that they had ever met with "agents" posing as the Houston Chapter of the Taliban membership committee... (sarcasm button off)
You have to ask yourself some more questions...
Why are they receiving training in weapons and marksmanship here in the US to go over seas to fight??? When all the while the goal is to destroy us right here as well...
Either the Taliban effort is too stupid to realize this, or they are inept cowards...

I kinda realize some may not consider this forum related...
But...
Since the activity centered around the use of a local Houston gunrange, I thought it to be thought provoking within our community...
I almost hid this down in the "shooting ranges" directory, but though more would probably see it better in here...

Yeah, Stevie, I'm sorta with Paladin. The arrests are the arrests, and I'm glad the FBI was watching. But it's this bit of reporting that could have close-to-home repercussions:
I'm a little concerned about the scrutiny that sort of story might bring to bear on valid, legit defense training...like Hoffner's and others. The truth may be that they went to a range and got a "Duck Hunting 101" class, then went back and shot skeet a few times.
It didn't sound like either of these guys had much money, and the only weapon found and confiscated was a shotgun. The story kinda makes it sound like they went to some elite military LERP training and lived in Brian Hoffner's house as apprentices."The two then underwent at least eight sessions of firearms and/or reconnaissance training around Harris County, which surrounds Houston, and other area counties."

What chaps me some when I think about it, is the way it was reported...
Makes me think that the intent of the reporting was to inflame a certain community to be wary of someone fitting this demographic coming to your range to practice for whatever reasons...
The media assuming certain people are that narrow minded...

I agree, the reporting is meant to inflame, but it's not directed at racial bias, I would say it's more closely targeted at the AntiGun folk.

"Good, Bad, I'm the guy with the gun..."
Point of Information...
Only one of them was a foreign national on expired student visa... other guy was US Citizen.
When I read the article in Chron, I wondered if any of the instructors I know or who post here(come to think of it all the ones I know post here) had given either of these guys a class.
I also wondered what kind of class in "reconnaissance" was available to the public.

Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
