Suggestions needed for concealed carry

Post by RockingRook »

Hello everyone!! I need some help deciding how to conceal and carry my handguns.

I presently have A Glock 27 and I intend to carry that using a IWB leather holster that I bought from High Noon.

Really nice holster and I feel that I have that problem solved.

I also have a fanny pack that will hold my Glock 27 or my Beretta Storm PX4 subcompact. In really hot weather with shorts and a
tee shirt the fanny pack suits me best. I am 68 and really do not care about image.

My question is two fold. I have a Ruger P-89 that I really like a lot. Will a slide holster work for that? I realize it is a difficult
gun to conceal and was thinking a slide holster under a over sized shirt is the way to go. Does anyone have any experience in carrying
a large gun like the Ruger?

Also, will a slide holster work for the Beretta sub compact? The Beretta is just a little shorter than the Glock 27 but it is a little
thicker.

I realize that I can carry all of my guns using 2 different size fanny packs but I like the idea of having holsters whenever possible.

Concealed carry is new to me so please excuse the seemingly simple questions.

Thanks in advance,

Chuck

I wear an extra-Tall Tee shirt (long) with an unbuttoned Guayabera shirt/Hawaiian shirt/cuban wedding shirt over it

2 layers are better than 1 when concealing, and the long Tee shirt is long enough so I can reach top shelf items without uncovering

The lose lightweight Guayabera type shirt unbuttoned in front with it's 4 pockets allows me to stuff the 4 pockets for diversionary bulges ...

Guayabera/Hawaiian shirts are typically worn in warmer climates .... like we have here, but I think the Guayabera/Cuban/Mexican wedding shirt blends in more in Texas than Hawaiian ones

I carry IWB, I have fanny packs, but carry IWB

I currently carry a full size 1911, but have been known to carry a Sig P226, XDm-40, XDm-45, XD-40, MP9, and other "Large" handguns. I typically use an inside the waistband holster like the Crossbreed supertuck deluxe or the Comp-Tac Minotaur. I have been known to also carry in a slide type holster with a long tailed shirt but it makes me nervous as a long long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. The reason it makes me nervous is because it doesn't take much to partially expose the firearm unless my shirt tale can be confused as a dress. from behind.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

One major factor for me is comfort ... I've posted before that I'm rather small framed compared to some on this forum 5 ft 7 in 150lbs...my main carry is a full size 1911loaded Springfield. With that I carry at 4-5 o'clock in a crossbreed with a forward cant . My secondary carry is a glock at 11oclock in a crossbreed with a rearward can't for crossdraw. That is comfortable and is easy for me to conceal.

I have even walked around with one of the most uncomfortable 9 lb firearms concealed (44 desert eagle) as a bet/ dare(long story)

Main thing is there is a lot of variety out there and lots of differing oppinions...if it works for you run with it... fannypack inside the waist outside the waist...thunderwear...all viable options

Edited to include more info

As for the large pistol carry options the desert eagle was carried in a highly modified $15 uncle Mike holster carried inside waist at 6 o'clock. It was carried around for about an hour around Walmart before the strap snapped. I'm not very familiar with slide holsters I primarily use slip on iwb with my options.

I always carry a full-sized gun and personally I like IWB with crossbreed holsters. They are as comfortable as IWB can be and I don't have to worry about my gun playing peek-a-boo if I stretch or bend. On weekends I sometimes like to carry OWB in a Galco or Fobus holster. With a long shirt it is okay, but there is a bump at times which could be noticeable to a keen eye. It depends on your comfort level, but you can definitely conceal a full-sized hand gun IWB with very little wardrobe accommodations and do so reasonably comfortably. I think that you will have to get used to your carry before it gets comfortable. If you have a good set up (quality holster), in time you will find it completely comfortable, but probably not so much in the beginning.

Now that summer is here I carry my Sig P238 in a custom IWB holster from Holster Pro. Great peice of leather. Expertly done. I will still carry my Kimber Ultra Carry 1 in a Mitch Rosen IWB. Depends on where I am going and what I am wearing. Rest assued, it is always in my truck with me, though. :tiphat:
