Ring bulge on the outside of XDM barrel...

Post by newTexan »

Hi guys,

I have a 9mm Springfield XDM, and I noticed as I was getting it out today for a possible trip to the range, that there's a bulging ring on the outside of the barrel about 3/4 of the way from the chamber to the end of the barrel. Looking inside the barrel I don't see anything wrong, but I can certainly feel the bulge on the outside. It appears uniform and goes all the way around.

Is this something I should be worried about, or is this normal?

Thanks!

I believe that the "bulge" is actually a flare that is part of the design to assure that the barrel is properly aligned.

Why yes, I do believe you are correct. Thanks for the link.

Getting ready to take the little woman for her first range trip, ever, and it's probably making me a little more concerned than normal about every little thing.

Thanks again!

Yup, maufactured that way. In your owner's manual, you will set it in the parts list.

Good luck, and I hope she greatly enjoys the trip to the range!

...I'm confoosed...are you home??? sounds like your location's changed...or you're a lot better armed than most of our guys over there!!! Every time I've let a lady shoot my guns, the .45 was the favorite...whether the first time they'd shot...or not...

I'm home for a few days, I took mid tour leave early so I could be home for my youngest sons HS grad. Headed back in. Few days, then a long 10 month stretch.
