I have thought about this as well. Like you a frequently travel to other states such as Ok., and Ark. I think I read that it was illegal to be in a rest area with a cc in Ark. So I avoid them since I am not really sure. I have been really thinking about getting one of those Kimber pepper spray deals that shoot the balls of pepper spray. I have been wanting to get one for my wife as well since she isnt comfy with firearms. Ever seen those? And if you have, what are your thoughts?

His thinking was, it needs to be a life or death situation to justify deadly force. On the other hand, if some guy is following your wife to the car from the grocery store, Taze him, and call the cops. No one could believe your intent was lethal. It's good to have options.

1) People HAVE died after being shot by Tazers.

2) Even if it's not considered lethal, it's still an assault. That guy following your wife better not be going to the car parked next to hers!

Plus, a pistol of any type is not a real good stopper. (Come on, guys, I've emptied magazines into armadillos and not stopped them if I didn't hit a vital).

I wouldn't consider a TASER better. You get one shot and it can be defeated much easier with heavy clothing.

Personally, I don't want to be within Taser distance, unless its one of those doohickies that actually launches a projectile on a wire, like what the cops carry. If it's one of those handheld zappers, then I'd rather use a knife or a bat, preferably the bat. I'm all about putting distance between me and the other guy. That's why I carry a gun.....so that I don't have to go to ground with somebody, a proposition that I would lose.

Just be careful and check the laws in those other states. Tasers, stun guns, and pepper spray are illegal for "civilians" in some states.

Exactly. And in a life or death situation, heart racing, adrenalin pumping, I'd much rather have my pistol with 7-18(depending on what I'm carrying) chances to hit the bad guy.

Plus, a pistol of any type is not a real good stopper.

If my .45 ACP isn't a good stopper, then why don't we get some volunteer's to step in front of them and prove that point.

I forget where, but have seen a "second chance" Taser, with a second shot in case of a miss.

I was looking for second shot plus pepper spray at the time I ran across it. I don't own any, but like to shop.

I just bought a Taser C2 for this next trip. It is not considered to be lethal weapon.

Correct, but it is not a non-lethal weapon either...the correct term is less-lethal, borderline semantics issue, but attorneys make lots of money defining that razor's edge.

It looks to be a better stopping weapon than a pistol.

This is absolutely absurd. I've been tased multiple times by the X26, both with prongs, and by getting tangled up in the leads while fighting some idiot. The TASER needs a whole host of things to go right to be 100% effective, and I can tell you from experience that rarely happens. For instance:

• You must get it out and on target before the threat actually gets to you
  You have to have a good spread to get NMI
  Both probes have to make contact
  If both probes dont make contact, you have to drive stun, and get within touching distance
  The TASER is sometimes inneffective on some people (fought a guy on PCP that was TASED 3 times while fighting AFTER we got the cuffs on)

This guy would sue you in civil court, and rightly file assault charges on you. Just because you do not use "deadly force" as texas calls it, you still must meet the justifications for using force.

I highly suggest you reconsider this line of thinking from someone who has ample experience with the TASER.

The first few exposures are with the clips, where you get to decide the probe placement. Starting at 2:05, they hit an APD LT by firing a cartridge. While some may say that you find a youtube video proving anything, I can affirm the reality of the scenario shown below. Enjoy:
