Yes, the sand bags were a constant struggle. After a couple of shots, I removed the top bag. Although it looks like the hand guard is resting on the bag in the 3rd pic, the rifle was really resting more on the 20-round magazine than anything else.
Yesterday was tons of fun. After shooting rifles, we moved over to shoot some of the pistols I brought. William learned to handle a 1911 by shooting my RIA with a Kimber .22LR conversion. After 50 rounds, he shot my Sig P238. After a few round of that, he decided he was ready to try my Kimber.
He did well with the Kimber (Ultra CDP II), but only wanted one round loaded at a time. That was my idea for the first round, but he wanted it that way for the next 3 or 4 rounds he shot.
RottenApple & I tried shooting my 3.5" RIA and neither of us could get it to group. We switched to the Kimber and found it wasn't the shooters.
I don't know what's wrong with that RIA, but I did discover that I can move the muzzle around quite a bit while the slide is fully in battery. I guess I'll be making a phone call later.
RottenApple had fun tearing the center out of the targets with the Kimber. I think he's got the bug now!

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams
