5.11 vest

When we went to San Antonio for the Thanksgiving holiday one thing I wanted to do was look at 5.11 vests. Thanks Flint for the stores there that were supposed to carry them. None did & I did not get to look at one.
Monday evening my son called & told me he had run into a place that had them. They were willing to send it & let me try it on w/ all return privileges if I did not like it or needed a different size.
Got it Tuesday & wore it Wed. Really like it.
Was wearing it at the mini CHL forum coffee stop. (thanks again guys)
Diode, JLaw, & dws all liked it too. Man you can hide a big gun in that thing & it is not one side heavy. I put a 4" S&W - 66 in one of the velcrow compartmants & you could tell there was something in it but NOT that is was a gun. Did not sag near as much as I thought it would w/ that much weight.

LT, I've had my eye on the 5.11 jacket in the Midway catalog. Have you seen any of those in the shops you've browsed?

None in any shop. That is why I wanted to see one in person. I wanted to try one on. See how much body it had. How heavy was it.
Dont know the name of the store he found it in there in San A. Really dont know where one is in Lubbock & I make most of the shops there when we go to the wife's folks.

Much appreciated. It's a Kimber...now you're doubly proud, aren't you? My first choice was a Springfield TRP-Pro; minimum six-month wait. Then a Rock River Arms 1911; six to eight months. Then the new Nighthawk Custom "Dominator," but was climbing almost into Wilson Combat price ranges, so I settled on a Kimber Super Match II. Only thing I'll have to change is the front sight (cause my eyes are too old to use a plain iron front sight), everything else on it is just about as I would have spec'd it (I talked to John in their Custom Shop and am buying a couple of little extra tweeks), and the accuracy guarantee is a lot better than I'll ever shoot.

AV8R: Just an FYI, you can look at 5.11's full line at http://www.511tactical.com/. I found the explanation of the company's name interesting: "5.11 is a difficulty level in the Yosemite Decimal rating scale for rock climbing. With skill levels ranging from 5.0 (easy) to 5.10 (difficult); 5.11 is the most difficult. 5.11 is defined as this, "After thorough inspection, you conclude this move is impossible; however, occasionally someone actually accomplishes it."

Actually it looked more like 3 oranges hidden in that compartment than a 4" Smith! (You had to be there...)

I love my 5.11 vest. Definitely great for IDPA. Tons of pockets. Haven't really worn it as a concealment garment though. Guess that's in the near future.......

LT, next time we get together to shoot...I'd like to see that vest. I might be interested in getting one as well.

If I know you, you will evaluate it carefully...and have good advice ready for me.

Will do Flint. All I can say about it is I LIKE IT. you will need a XXL in size but you can get in mine & see if you like it too. You could actually wear it as long as you did not fasten it.

For you who do not know Flint, he is one big gentleman. Heart the size of Texas too.

I will have mine in January at the edged weapons training....it is 2X if you would like to try it out you are more than welcome! It is a bit warm in the summer but the extra weight helps to get it out of the way quickly.
