Vintage Remington Rimfire - Missing a Part?

Post by doc540 »

Model 24 rifle (Browning copy)

the barrel/foregrip assembly is loose when attached to the receiver/stock

this collar has an un-threaded hole in it

was there a pin which is now missing?

How was it secured from the factory?

Could I just use a spring washer to shim the collar and create tension?

You might try a Browning Forum or Numrich Arms. Numrich (e-gunparts.com) has schematics and also has a forum and place to ask questions. I remember their being a ring (collar)that screwed around the barrel to receiver on a Browning, but this may be a little different design. It's looks like there's on on the barrel with the receiver but the close-up doesn't seem to show it have one. Did you remove it for the picture?

Edited for additional info. Numrich has a schematic of the Rem Model 24 and the Brning .22 Auto It's hard to tell on the Remingtion drawing but the Brning has a part that called "take up ring follower" that is a shouldered pin that looks like has no threads that could fit in the hole. When you engage the barrel to receiver and the lock ring is in position it may apply tension against the lock ring as the collar is tightened

I had one of these as a kid but stupidly traded it for a 10/22 cause I wanted to run a scope

The barrel assembly is kind of a quick disconnect isn't it? I seem to remember something like that.

Good to hear. :hurry: I'd be interested in how it turns out. Keep us posted if it's not too much to ask.

Edit for added info. If you can't find parts Wisners http://www.wisnersinc.com may be of help. Also Jack First Gun Shop http://www.jackfirstgun.com
