Sweet! I'll stick to my .45 Colt Marlin though -- you can upload .45LC to near 45-70 velocities, but if you're going to drop big game, 45-70 is the way to go.
Luv my Marlin though. Just recently took it completely apart and gave it a good cleaning. THAT was an interesting experience

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

That means my .450 Marlin Guide Gun must kick like three mules

12 rounds is the most consecutive punishment that I could handle
If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words.
Re: Bought A New Rifle
I haven't actually shot mine yet. Just read reports.
I think these high powered levers are the cat's meow for brush hunting big game.
My hunting days are long over and range time with mine will be limited due to the cost of ammo without reloading. I got mine mainly to try it out and have it to pass down to my Son who lives in Canada and can get some use out of it on bear and moose.
He visits once a year and next year we will take it to the range and sight in the new VS sights I have installed on it.

Re: Bought A New Rifle
I think that a big bore lever gun is an excellent alternative to either a short AR or AK as a truck gun. It may be lacking in capacity to either of those two carbines, but the .45-70 caliber isn't exactly lacking in authority. You might just scare somebody to death with it.

Annoyed Man with the guns I see that you like you would love this thing! Agreed its so easy to move around would be a great truck gun but yet doesnt look tactical. Wolf in sheeps clothing.

Seriously though, the one pictured above is tarted up probably more than I would like.....but I do think that either a "scout" type long eye relief scope or a good red dot optic would be a perfect setup for a .45-70 chambered lever rifle.

Re: Bought A New Rifle
Went to Garland today to shoot the rifle with my son. To say we love this rifle is a understatement. What a Great gun. The action worked perfectly and the recoil was firm but not to the point were we didn't want to shoot it.
The whole package was a very smooth operator and would def be a rifle that I would recommend.

FYI, in case you reload... the Hornady manuals have loads tailored to the Marlin (a bit hotter than standard factory loadings). I used to load them for a co-worker.
