How much does your AR weigh?
How much does your AR weigh? Mine is right at 9 lbs, and I am trying to decide if I can afford to put the Magpul UBR stock on or if I should just stick to something lighter.

My DelTon -- 16" heavy barrel with Magpul MOE furniture and Yankee Hill QDS rear sight -- weighs 6 lb. 15.1 oz. without optic. With the Millett DMS-1 in American Defense QD mount it is 8lb. 9.7 oz..

Re: How much does your AR weigh?
My wife's is the lightest one we own. It's an M4 barrel, flat top, with all MOE furniture, and a Vortex Strikefire red dot optic on board. With an empty 30 round PMag, it weighs 7 lbs even on our fully optimized, registered and digitized bathroom scale. Mock ye not. It cost us at least $39.95.
Mine is quite a bit heavier. I haven't weighed it, but it has a VTOR EMod stock, YHM rifle length lightweight rail, and a 16" heavy profile barrel. But It also has a EOTech sight and a 3X magnifier......not to mention a tactical light and a Magpul AFG. It is actually fairly heavy for a carbine, and I'm going to guess the weight at about 9 lbs.
There is something to be said for a stripped down, lightweight "patrol" carbine like my wife's. They are much handier. If I build myself another one, I'll build a lightweight one like my wife's.

Mine's just under 9 lbs. Not a lightweight.

Re: How much does your AR weigh?
I have a Yankie Hill diamond forearm, which is where most of my weight is coming from.
Re: How much does your AR weigh?
Mine has been heavy and is now relatively light. It's a M4 style but I originally had a quad rail, flashlight, and scope on it. I found it heavy but doable. I was hoping to get my wife involved in rifle shooting. So, I pulled all that stuff off and went with magpul stock/handguard and just a yankee hill rear sight. I thought it was really light weight. I let my wife try it at the range last week and the first thing she said was "It's heavy". I guess she will just stick with her glock.
Re: How much does your AR weigh?
Or buy her an AK or Beretta CX4 those are both light weight. I would not get an AK in 7.62x39 for my wife though, the recoil is a lot for her to handle, but 5.45 is pretty soft. CX4 is plastic and shoots pistols rounds so recoil is a non issue in that platform. Good luck getting the misses to shoot rifles. I have been after my Mom to at least learn more about them and she says they are heavy and does not like the added noise over a handgun. Sorry to OP, but I have a carbine weighing in around 9lbs, a 9mm AR weighing in between 7-8lbs, and a 20" full railed LaRue rifle with PRS stock, bipod, Trijicon Accupoint and mount, and a PSG style palm shelf pistol grip on it and would guess its every bit of 12-13lbs empty.

Re: How much does your AR weigh?
On the first day of the Urban Rifle Course at Thunder Ranch, mine weighed just under 8 pounds without a magazine. By the end of the 8th day, it weighed 60 pounds.

The lightest at 7.5#(5.56x45) and the heaviest at 12#(.300 short action ultra mag). Love the heavy one as there is not much recoil, but the $2.50 a pull keeps me from shooting it as often as I would like.
Re: How much does your AR weigh?
mine weighs around 8 unloaded. Just for reference, last year I embarked on a project for the lightest possible legal (barrel length was a factor) build. I got it a little over 4 lbs empty. Pencil barrel with no flashhider, A2 sight cut down to just the gas block, titanium forearms carbine length, Cavarms lower with stock cut down, no ejection port door, and polymer sights. Also removed the forward assist parts (plugged), trigger guard and used a light weight buffer. It shot to point of aim but recoil was a killer. ended up selling it. Even dragging it around like Charles said it probably wouldnt have gotten heavy but the shooting would have wore you out.
Re: How much does your AR weigh?
I had a SBR AR a few years back with an 11.5 inch barrel. I would say it weighted about 5 to 6 lbs, but it was not fun to shoot.

Re: How much does your AR weigh?
I don't have an AR, but my MAK-90 with plastic furniture weighs right at 7# empty according to my bathroom scale. With a 40rd mag or 75rd drum, it gets a bit heavier ;)

Re: How much does your AR weigh?
Easily the heaviest rifle in our safe is my son's RRA 24" stainless bull-barreled varminter. That thing is a beast. It outweighs two different heavy barreled .308 bolt rifles, both of which are already pretty heavy. I'm guessing it's weight in the 15-17 lb range. OTH, it consistently shoots 5 rounds into 1/4" at 100 yards, and it will do it all day long, and recoil is imperceptible. Here is a picture of it when it was new. It has since had a Magpul PRS stock added to it:Sidro wrote:The lightest at 7.5#(5.56x45) and the heaviest at 12#(.300 short action ultra mag). That range looks like its kept in really good shape. A lot better than the mud hole (when it rains here) us Houston locals call American Shooting Center. Great looking long range rig by the way.
