NM governor gets perfect score on renewal of her concealed-carry permit

SANTA FE - New Mexico's pistol-packin' governor is a sure shot.

Gov. Susana Martinez received perfect scores on recertification for her concealed-carry permit over the weekend in Las Cruces. She scored 100 percent with both .38- and .45-caliber handguns, her staff said.

Martinez's permit to carry a concealed handgun, originally obtained in 2009, was extended for another two years.

She was a district attorney and a Republican candidate for governor when she first went through training and qualified to carry a concealed weapon. Her spokesman, Greg Blair, said Martinez's personal and professional experiences motivated her to arm herself.
Apparently, Rick Perry isn't the only one packin'.........

If that video was her shooting the test, I like the NM proficiency test much better than ours.

There are at least two shots missed in the video, so as she got a 100% according to the article, I doubt it's her actual proficiency test.

Maybe the test is to knock over all the targets in a time window or with a maximum round count? :confused5
Lots of ways to define 100%

Very true. Hadn't considered that.

Google is our friend. . . .

I googled "New Mexico concealed handgun shooting requirements" and learned the NM shooting test is a 12" X 18" piece of white paper. Fifty rounds are fired 20 at 3 yards 15 at 7 yards and 15 at 15 yards. Each hit on the paper is worth 2 points. 38 X 2 = 76 is minimum.

I suspect the video is a stage at a shooting match but I could be wrong.

"She scored with her .38 and .45"
Do you need to qualify with each weapon?

The NM Governor promotes licensed CC in her state. Whereas, the governors/mayors, et al of the non-CC states and cities are surrounded by paid armed bodyguards while the citizens are protected by the police who are only minutes away. Whether she is the next Annie Oakley or not is a moot question that does not merit sexist ridicule. :tiphat:

How does Texas' first lady carry/shoot?

{ :shock: ...did I really say all of that?}

I believe NM caps the caliber you may carry based on what you use to qualify. I presume she qualified with a .38 revolver and a .45 semiauto.
