I have liked Sigs, however most of the 226's I have handled had too thick a grip to hold comfortably and to reach the trigger. The E2 model features a thinner grip that is also more narrow and is scooped out more around the tang, allowing you to grip it higher. These grips have more of a sandpaper type finish for better gripping, yet is not unfomfortable. Upon seeing a couple on sale, I sold off some guns and purchased a new 9mm P226 E2 for $789 (MSRP $1,200). This also had the SRT trigger package. I was surprised that it came with THREE magazines, since it advertised two. It also has trijicon night sites. Upon cleaning I was a little surprised to find a flimsy plastc guide rod, however the recpil spring was super heavy duty, made of braided steel. I am considering replacing the rod with after market stainless. Black with Nitron finish. The magazines appear to be teflon coated.
Took it to the range today, after cleaning substantial cosmoline off. It feels heavy... but balanced. More heavy than I would care to carry, but not for home or range work. At 7 yards I easily shot 1-2" groupings without learning the gun first. I decided to give the SRT a try and by the time my hour range time was up, it almost sounded like full auto!
It is not a bbq gun, nothing that attractive about it to me... but a very good shooter. Not a single hiccup in the break-in of even the cheapest Monarch steel cased ammo.
