Retired.........

Post by Jim101 »

Well, I "pulled the trigger" and took a package at work, my last day is 12/29, that gives me 28.6 years...........Done..
Now, I would like to be a CHL instructor, where do you go to get certified, what does it cost and after everything is done, is it easy to get a job?

Thanks,

Jim

Well first of all congrats on the retirement.

As I understand it you can get most if not all of the information from the DPS CHL site. They have a entire instructor section. I know you have to take training in Austin as well. Here is the link

Congratulations on your retirement.

Have you considered also becoming an NRA certified instructor? Then you can teach general shooting, personal defense, and hunter safety. You could have an all-round curriculum.

The new CHL Instructor training is held in Austin every year in the first week in August. It is a 40 hour (5 day) class. If you can't go when they have it, you get to wait til next year. The cost is $100 plus the cost of your lodging and food for the week. You should send in an application no later than first quarter to make sure you get in.

Getting a job after? That just depends on where you are and what you want to do. Most of the local ranges already have someone, or several someones. You might want to think about starting your own business, separate from a range.

Whatever you decide, good luck to you and congrats on the retirement!

just an aside Linda, the course is now done in 4 days. But that first 12 hour, and next 10 hour day makes one kinda numb. :???:
Ø resist

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.

I retired in October after 32 years... I'm delighted beyond words.

Now every day is Saturday... except Sunday....

You will love it...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, I am looking forward to dumping work and doing something I like....
We have a 30' travel trailer and 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 2500HD and will be hitting the road for some trips to Yellowstone and other National Parks, places we haven't been ( that is a bunch). That's after we go to all the places in Texas we haven't seen.......We have a busy schedule.....
Being able to teach CHL classes is always something I wanted to do, so I'll be looking into it as well as the NRA instructor.....

Thanks again,

Jim
