Police in Boston leaving friendly notes in unlocked cars
I do not recommend leaving a car unlocked. Have I left my car unlocked before--yep. Have I done that and then had something stolen--sigh yes
. Do I want the police to open my unlocked car and lock it for me leaving a friendly note NO! From a simple person's perspective I have every right (though stupid it may be) to leave my car unlocked and windows open. I don't want police officers opening my car up and even doing nothing more than leaving a friendly note.

What do they do with a topless jeep or a convertible with the top down?
