New Springfield XD - "Two guns in one"

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

If someone already posted this, then I missed it and I apologize for the duplication.

Springfield has another XD 45 in its lineup and it's a simple but great idea. They are making an XD 45 with a shorter grip and shorter mags., but also full length mags. with a grip "filler."

Careful, Charles!

Get an XD, and you may stop shooting whatever you carry now....

;-)

I love my XD-SC9. The larger grip (mag) is ok for those that need the extra room (large hands), but my 10rnd with the Pierce Extention is perfect for me.

I have the XD-40SC and it gives the utility of two pistols, with a 9-round magazine for the compact role and a 12-round magazine with a filler to make a full-length grip. You can also use the standard 12-round magazine from my XD-40 4" model.

The curious thing about the XD-45 subcompact is they shortened the grip length, but it still has the standard 4" barrel. It makes me wonder if a short barrel unit will be introduced.

When using the longer magazines with the filler...be sure to roll the lower palm of your strong hand away from the magwell before slamming a new magazine home. Yow!!

Got the latest "Handguns" magazine in the mail today. They did a review of the XD-45 Compact and gave it positive comments.

I saw one a couple of weeks ago at Targetmaster in Garland. Side by side with my XD-45 service, the compact is exactly the same size except for the grip; add the 13 round mag with grip extension and they are the same. Cool.
Shooting an XD will make a believer out of you, it did me!

That may very well be my next pistol - an XD that is.

I like that Compact, I'm gonna have to go look for one at the next gun show.
