Check those holsters
Interesting story about a handgun (glock), that actually discharged by itself.

Re: Check those holsters
No worry with a 1911 carried correctly. Thanks for the post, very informative to Glockers who carry.

Re: Check those holsters
Also a good lesson that many don't take serious. Carry in GOOD gear. If cared for properly, good leather gear will not soften and deform like that, if it was formed much to begin with. People ruin leather gear using products on it thinking they're doing the right thing when it's not the right thing. It's important to know what the maker recommends for cleaning and care based on the leather and what they do to it, if they recommend anything beyond wiping it off if it needs it.
That "old comfortable" leather holster was a hazard from the get go. I just realized it's a Jak, between the belt and pants. Yaqui slide style is one thing, but between the belt and pants is something I've never understood. Obviously for one thing, it's much more prone to deforming, as if it ever really had a form. They seem to rely solely on the pressure for retention and that pressure deforms leather like that. He wore it out way beyond it's useful life.
Looking closer at the pictures, I don't understand how anyone could continue to carry in a holster that was that stretched and deformed. As he admitted, he knew it was like that and continued to carry it. There are very few, if any AD's, most are ND's that people don't want to except as what they really are. That was negligence.
Hopefully others will learn from it. Especially Glock owners.
I carry a 1911 and while it may have been safer in that holster, I'd never do such a horrible thing as to expose her to that kind of humiliation.

ND. The gun DID NOT discharge itself. The trigger was pulled by an worn out holster being carried by a negligent owner. Take care of your gear and it will take care of you.
