Dallas man finds burglar stealing guns from his home

I would bet the bad guy would be in even worse shape if the homeowner was already there instead of happening upon the bad guy when he arrived home.

It also sounds like this is a habitual problem but I bet he will think twice before trying to get into another house again.

That homeowner is braver than I am!

I don't think I'd have entered the house. Seriously, I am safe outside, BG inside, no family inside with BG, I'm calling the cops and watching to make sure he doesn't get away.

But, I wasn't there and can't know for sure what would've been running through my mind if I were.

The homeowner is very lucky there wasn't multiple BG's in the house and that the the BG was a crumby shot.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

I agree with you, but I think the homeowner blew his stack.

I wonder how old he is. The article said his wife had passed away, which may indicate he wasn't a young guy.

"When police arrived, they found the unconscious burglar in a pool of blood on the hallway floor."

Sounds like the home owner opened up a #303 can 'O Whup Butt on him.

It may not be advisable, it might have been tactically incorrect, it could have turned out differently another time, but.......man I love this!

 Reminds me of the Monday after I came home to find my house burglarized. "Honest officer, I just found him that way. His ears were bleeding and he was just a whining and carrying on....But, looky here, I see my wife's stolen earing on the ground next to him!"
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

I agree with you guys -- I wouldn't have gone in the house. The homeowner was lucky, but it certainly makes for an interesting story! That particular BG will not soon forget that experience! But, unfortunately, there's no guarantee that the experience will cause a change in his future behavior.

The BG can't get into more trouble for firing that shot?

Should have 3 burglaries and attempted murder charges.

One more thug off the streets.

"Mr. McKinney went into the home through the window and confronted the burglar. Police said the suspect fired a shot at Mr. McKinney, but it hit a wall instead. "

It does sound like Mr. McKinney got lucky here. He entered a house with an armed criminal who was willing and able to shoot, without a gun of his own? While everything turned out okay, since Mr. Mckinney's family wasn't home, he should have called the police.

A while back an armed CHL got killed under similar circumstances (the CHL killed the armed burglar in return... both died)

I'm sure that even the police wouldn't have gone in unless they had to. And if the criminal wouldn't come out on his own, it would have been a SWAT team going in.

I suspect the burglar may think long and hard before doing that again ...

Just glad it turned out the way it did.

One of my initial CHL students had a similar incident several years back - and was also very fortunate that things shook out as they did. Homeowner weighed well over 400 pounds and had the proverbial "32 gun in his pocket for fun" - with all of his other guns locked up in house where burglar had kicked out sliding glass door.

20/20 hindsight says he too should have called 911 ... Particularly due to the fact that one of the pieces of evidence found in posession of the BG was the thick half of homeowner's pool que, which the BG was probably planning to use on homeowner's skull if needed to escape ...

DMN missed their chance....

What's really supprising about this article is that The Dallas Morning News didn't refer to the burgal as the victim and the home owner as a crazed gun owner with HUNDREDS of rounds of ammo stockpiled to kill school children.
