The new deep conceal rig. I have never really been completely satisfied w/ the .3AT in my back pocket when I cant carry my .45. I recently acquired the Taurus 85 ultralight. Bought a holster from our own JLaw & promptly modified it a little. Raised it up on my belt line by 1.25" & put some cant on it. Works real good tucked. Impossible to see even w/ the shirt tucked as tight as I can get it.





I do not feel under armed w/ 5 rds of .38 sp.
Now I think I need an OWB for when I wear a vest.

LT thats a sweet set up , you aren't under gunned with that for sure .

I am returning to a revolver for some of my shooting. I have not carried a revolver since the mid 80's when I worked reserve for the Marion Co. SO. Shoots good & I should have at least a short range report on it. I will go out early in the morning & edit this.
Was out this afternoon but did not take it.
I need a lot of mental training to make the transition from 7 in the 3AT to 5 here. If you have 2 targets, 5 shots aint many

Was it difficult to sew the clip back on the holster? I really like the way you've modified that thing. And, are those Silvertips in the picture?

I need to join you sometime my friend. I have a "tuned" Ruger SP-101 that stays in a drawer at home for Mrs. Flintknapper. It hasn't had a 100 rounds put through it in 5 years.

It could stand a little workout. I hate to embarrass myself in front of you, but I'm willing to do it in order to practice a little with the wheel gun. My revolver skills (sparse as they are) have laid dormant since the early 80's.

You had that 101 out the day, you, me & Eugene shot & I looked at your Miami rig. Yes it is a nice shooter. I would really like one. The last I found around here, one of the ladies at the church bought it. It was at East Tex Pawn here. As soon as she touched it she bought it. She ask me if I thought it was a good gun & deal. I told her if she did not buy it I was. She wont turn loose of it at all. I really wish I could find a GP100 w/ a 3"barrel. Need to find it in about a yr though because Sweet Wife & Mom have put a hole in my gun money this past 3 months.

The revolver day sounds good. It would be fun to declare wheels only. No bullets in the grip allowed.
I have been able to shoot pretty agressively now so I am ready to go. For those of you that have not seen him shoot, he aint no slouch & he is not worried about me embarrasing him at all.

Keep praying for our Brother as he has posted. See you in print.

We got bit by the same bug at the same time.....I have had a hard time putting my wheel guns down over the last week!

I got the new little 642 and it has caused an upset in the world of plastic...

I found myself shopping for IWB wheel gun holsters today! YIKES

ETA: Tomorrow is National "Smith" Day......no wonder we are having this urge!

Yikes yes. I now need an OWB for the 85. That will put me in shape w/ the roller guns. I would like a Tucker for the 66 but wont spend that kind of money. When I get a GP100 I will probably do it then.

As, seemingly, the lone holder of the JMB memorial and keeper of the Forum flame for 1911 pistols now that Longtooth has completely given over to the Dark side , please direct your questions to me.

Of interesting note, the latest issue of Front Sight indicates that recent modifications--or at least proposals--in USPSA rules would mean that IDPA CDP regulations and USPSA Single Stack regulations would essentially merge. You got a single-stack 1911 with iron sights, an 8-round mag, and no compensator or other tricks, you're good to go in either discipline.

The only real difference I can see between the two standards at first glance is that the USPSA allows a 43 ounce gun where IDPA allows only 41 ounces. So presumably you could use a tungsten guide rod and lead tape on the frame in USPSA. The "box" dimensions are identical.

This convergence is a very good thing for 1911 shooters. I couldn't be happier.

However, the USPSA power factor requirement is pretty weak. But that's just my humble opinion. If you use factory loads, you're always at a big disadvantage. The power factor should be raised to reflect standard 230 gr. FMJ loads. Even the weakest 230 load I've shot well exceeds the USPSA minimum requirement.

That's a handy looking little rig.

On those occasions where I don't need to carry a gun, I slip my wife's Model 85 Ultralite (SS) into an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. With 125gr XTPs, I don't feel undergunned either. But I'm very mindful of the fact that I have a rock in my hand after five shots.

I also have to adjust my grip, by canting my wrists fully down; otherwise, I'm going to shoot very high, even at short ranges.

But as bellybusters go, I can't think of a better backup gun.

The modification on the holster was not hard. I still have some leather tools from yrs gone by. The poly belt clip was positioned & then drilled w/ a 3/32 bit going through leather too. Sew it w/ artifical sinew & a 1/8 needle. Curved one would have been easier but did not have one at the time. Took about 30 minutes to get everything out, drill the brads out, & reassemble. The old holes are unseen in public & bother nothing.

Yes 125 grain silver tip HPs.
Trying several different PD loads to see what works best.
Will post a short range report & targets later this morn.

Agreed,

They do align all the cartridges in one direction and they make it less likely you'll drop any, but "speedy"...nope!

I have a H&K speed loader for the 101, but the Hogue grips interfere with it slightly (it becomes easy to fumble). I am seriously thinking about sending it off and having the cylinder modified to accept full moon clips. Now, those are "speedy".
