Silencers for Texas Hunting
I saw a message on Tx Gun talk about Texas Parks and Wildlife taking comments on hunting game with silencers in Texas.
Looks like they are going to take comments beginning 1/26/2012 on their website at: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/fe ... _comment//.
Set your reminders, login and make your comments. I can just taste hog huntin' with a silencer.

For some reason, I thought it was legal to hunt with a suppressor....guessing that I am wrong?

They can be used for exotics and feral hogs but not for anything that has a "season".
Re: Silencers for Texas Hunting
what is the issue with using a suppressor when hunting? It is nicer for your neighbors. You have a chance to get more than 1 shot off before you scare game away. They help protect your hearing. etc etc

They're in Texas. They should be scared enough as it isThe Annoyed Man wrote:They scare liberals.AdioSS wrote:what is the issue with using a suppressor when hunting?

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.
Re: Silencers for Texas Hunting
Kudos to TP&W for starting this, but...why just for hunting? Need to broaden this a bit...

Re: Silencers for Texas Hunting
i didn't know there was a restriction to hunting with a suppressor. It helps with the sound, muzzle flare, and the recoil.

Anyway, sure, hogs aren't a 'game' animal, however, I'd rather not explain to the nice Game Warden that I wasn't gonna shoot that buck with that silencer, I had it in case I saw some hogs...
Let's just dump the silencer ban and pay attention to what's next.

Re: Silencers for Texas Hunting
Yea I am trying to think if I buy the rem700 I want and put a qd mount break on it for my sdn-6 will I have problems explaining that I didn't use my suppressor to take the game down. Anyone know the thinking behind not allowing suppressors to hunt game?PBratton wrote:I thought it was called a heliochopter...RPB wrote:From a Hec-i-lop-ter tooooo I thinkCarry-a-Kimber wrote:You can.TheDude wrote:I thought you could already hunt hogs with a suppressor.PBratton wrote: I can just taste hog huntin' with a silencer.

I believe that the original concern was with poaching.
