LCR Fail

Walked into my local gunshop intent on buying an LCR in .357. Of course he sets this next to the LCR and I folded. I knew if he showed me an SP101 I would not be walking out with the LCR...sure enough, here I sit. Holster & range time!

I am jealous. This is my next purchase in a revolver. Like speed six said. I got a little smith revolver but I regret not getting a snub .357 sp101 with D/S action. I should have known better after having a 3in sp-101 in .32 H&R mag. I need to correct that mistake sooner then later!

Blazer 125 gr .38
-shot well. Easy to handle

Blazer 158 gr .38
-Shot well... Easy to handle.

Blazer 158 gr .357
-Not much fun. Lotta recoil... But once I got through a few cylinders it wasn't too hard to shoot well.

Hornady Crit Defense 125 gr .357
- Shot very well... Recoil was there, but plenty manageable even in rapid fire.

So my carry load will be the Hornady 125 gr .357 loads. I liked the way they shot-- accuracy was great. Kep groups in a paper plate at 15 yards... At 7 yards they were grouped about fist size.

Recoil in the big .357 loads was stout in this wheelie-- I will not be carrying them regularly. They may be a good "woods load," but I might look at something else for that too. The sweet spot for me was the 125 gr .357 loads... It just felt great. The .38 loads were already to manage and fun to shoot-- I might go find some good +P loads for a .38 option.

Conceal ability is to be determined. I bought a cheapie uncle mikes IWB for now, but am looking for something a little (lot) better. A good IWB appendix holster and OWB pancake or slide are being researched, and any input is welcome.

Your lucky you didn't get a j frame snub nose then! My dad had a sp-101 in .357 mag and the 125 grain hot loads were less recoil then plus P .38 special Remington 158LHP in my bodyguard. Weight my friend is a good thing if you carry on your hip!

Check out the Kramer Leather MSP. That's what I use. I haven't found at better holster for revolver OWB.

Im thinking that this is going to be a good project gun. Fiber optic front sight and new grooved grips are my next idea. Has anyone had any work done by these guys? For $300 bucks they seriously hook up your SP101. The "basic hydro-port" package looks like a good deal.

Bet the porting does wonders for recoil on the big loads... But I'm not sure a flame directed upwards would be a good idea for a defensive weapon.

I agree that the porting would not be good for night work (too much flash in sightline). That's partly why my 3 incher does not have it. It MAY help in better control of your shorter barreled model. But my 3" handles hot loads just fine without the need for porting.

I use the pictured custom wood grips (supplied by Gemini) only for BBQ work.....
I use a Hogue Monogrip for daily CC and it really soaks up the felt recoil of hot loads and easy to hold onto. A thousand times better than the stock Ruger grip and cheap price for what you get.
