I was planning on going to Laguna Atascosa NWR tomorrow is it legal to carry there and if not what are my options? I was planning on driving in but I guess I could walk if I have to.

deadeye,

sorry no one replied to your question, but it is a tough one. Lands under the national park service are off limits, lands under the forest service are OK, but the wildlife refuges are administered under the fish and wildlife service. Hunting is allowed sometimes, but I don't know what kind of policy regarding CHLs they have.

I am interested in the answer however.

Best I can find is here: http://www.fws.gov/southwest/REFUGES/te ... html#Rules

They are explicit in stating that, "No firearms permitted (except for legal hunting)."

It looks like the only hunting permitted is some white-tail deer in season. The Website says to contact the Refuge at (956) 748-3607 or by email at r2rw_la@fws.gov for information. That might be a good idea to try before you leave just to make sure you get the word straight from the source.
