When visiting a local dealer's retail location, they always have a decent selection of handguns on display, especially for the makes & models they probably sell a lot of.
But their displays aren't packed to the brim - there's plenty of open, unused space where they could display more if they wanted.
Now when I see this same dealer's tables at a gun show, the inventory there is much larger than what they have on display in the store. But the inventory at the store is still there too, same as always, during the gun show. At the shows, they often even have models available that they don't carry in their retail location at all.
So, where does that show inventory come from? I understand they may have back of store and warehouse merchandise like other retailers. But if that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to have a lot of that inventory on display in the retail location all the time, except on gun show days? You know, to better their chances of parting me from my money?
I asked them about it once, and they replied "The show inventory comes from all over."
Was that evasive? Am I on to some great gun dealer secret I'm not supposed to know about? Is there a cat clawing to get out of the bag here?
Thanks to anyone "in the know" for solving whatever mystery there may be !
