Not Impressed With Dallas PD

Post by carlson1 »

My assistant pastor had his truck stolen on Sunday AM around 12:30AM. He seen the thief (I thought a wise choice did not confront him) called the Irving PD and by the time they arrived of course truck is gone. In the back of the truck is 100 gallons of paint and a paint machine for striping parking lots etc. You could literally follow the paint trail. It ended behind a house in Dallas. The truck is stuck in a field behind a house in the area of Westmorland and Singleton. All of his tools are gone. DPD calls him and picks up truck from impound on Sunday Afternoon. He goes back to where the truck is left and you can follow the paint from the truck across the field, through a drive way, and on a gate of a privacy fence. He even sees the thief setting on the porch. He then calls DPD and dispatched told him to come back over tonight after Church and the police would meet him and they would take a look in the back yard to see if they could visually see any tools. I road with him and we met the DPD about one block away. The police arrive listen to his story. DPD "we do not want to get involved it sounds like a civil matter." This is why we should all carry not only can the good officers not be everywhere all the time, but our selection for officers with character must be at an all time low. My old Lieutenant came by to see my son last week and told me how many Troopers he had to suspend last month for abuse of sick time. I remember the day that you could not even have bad credit.

There's a new breed of cat working the front lines these days. It's not only in the private sector either. It's very present in todays military. Sad, but true. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

that wuz hard too reed.

anyway, so it went from Irving to Dallas, maybe that's where the issue with it being civil and what-not.
if the same jurisdiction police that had responded in the first place had taken the second call, maybe that would have made some effect.
that and it was the next day.

They sure wanted a credit report to go with the application I'm turning in tomorrow.

All the DPD officer had to do was take a supplemental report on the recovered vehicle and had the victim call a detective so a warrant could be obtained for the residence.

DPD still has left over problems from its low hiring procedures of years past.

The entire city is a mess.

TX,
They did even have to do that much work. The paint machine is in the back yard. Look through the fence (plain view). The paint trail was more than probable cause. Or at least that was the way that I see it. The truck was less than 200 yards from the paint machine and the house.

STILL IMPRESSED WITH IRVING PD

Post by carlson1 »

UPDATE: Irving PD detective went to the suspects house this morning. Paint machine still in plain view. It has been recovered with most of the tools and suspect in jail. IRVING PD detectives even works on holidays. Maybe DPD can soon get their act together.

Carlson,

Good to know there was a happier ending to a really sad story. I am still dumbfounded by the DPD's response! (I mean, lack thereof!)

Take care.

once again, I see something to do with the Irving/Dallas jurisdiction. I believe there is more to this, though I can only speculate as to why the DPD either was unable to, or chose not to follow up on this.
maybe, since Irving had the initial report, they could do more than defer to the "it's a civil matter."

Yeah, a uniform patrol officer without benefit of the facts a detective could gather from another jurisdiction would not be able to make a seizure based solely on the statements of an individual.

That's why the least the patrol officer should have taken a supplemental report to document the alleged evidence. I call it alleged because to a patrol officer with no knowledge of the facts it is alleged.

Houston City Counsel ws recently looking into approving the lowering of standards and testing for academy applicants to fill the ranks of the police force in this city...

If anything, you have to wonder why is this newsworthy???

I'm being sarcastic, but you have to wonder what drives the mear mentioning of an idea like this???

This is a path I told my city counselperson that we better keep in check...She told me she's all over it...But there appear to be too many sold on the idea...
