Scope Ring Suggestions Please

Here is what I'm working with at the moment....



It's a great mount and holds nice and tight but I think it might be just a tad high.

What I want to do is lower it to where my scope sits as close to the actual rifle as possible.
The scope has a 40mm objective.
I've done a bit or research and I think the Burris Xtreme medium rings would fit the bill but I still want your input to make sure.
Any other suggestions that won't break the bank...i.e. LaRue or DD.

Shoulder and make cheek placement on the stock, then have someone use a dowel and line it up with you eye holding it level/parallel with the receiver. Measure from the flat top and calculate ring height from there. Keep in mind you must have clearance for the objective and ocular bell.

my rem 700 uses those same burris extreme med. rings with my 40mm scope .... love em , as tough as they look .... if i mount that scope on my AR it rides 1/2" off my rail .
ive never used lock tight in those mounts and they havent budges in 2 years .... makes me happy since ive shot off a few scopes / red dots

i think you made the right choice the first time and i will but them again when the time comes

Aluminum rings can strip out very easily. I would go with steel rings.

It appears the exit pupil of the scope is at least 3 inches above the comb of you butt stock. Do you use a typical cheek to stock position when you shoot? I just looked at my RRA EOP with a 6-24 and the exit pupil is 1-7/8" above the comb with Leupold quick release rings. 3" seem awfully high, but if it fits you that's what matters.

I just looked at my RRA EOP with a 6-24 and the exit pupil is 1-7/8" above the comb with Leupold quick release rings. 3" seem awfully high, but if it fits you that's what matters.

Nope, not a traditional cheek weld. Instead of my head being tilted a bit its almost completely vertical or at least more than a traditional cheek weld would be.
I have actually thought before that it would be more comfortable to shoot if I was able to get a mount that would hold my scope at an angle left to right just a hair.

Those are the SWFA rings in that picture. I own a set of the Burris rings, and my son has them on one of his rifles. They are pretty good, but the SFWA rings are just as good, and they're a little bit cheaper.

As far as the ring height, I don't know for sure, but I think I'd go for the tall rings (http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-Tac-30mm-1-Rings-P47907.aspx). You can always phone SFWA and tell them this is for an AR type of weapon and ask what height they recommend. Also, SWFA sells an integrated scope mount: http://swfa.com/SWFA-SSALT-30mm-Scope-Mount-P47828.aspx.

A Google search for "Steel scope rings" will give you many choices.

You just have to look at the description carefully.
There are Mfgs that offer both.

It is true that steel rings won't strip out, but if you torque the screws to the specified values, the rings will be plenty tight enough and they won't strip out, even with aluminum rings. If weight is an issue, aluminum rings will of course weigh less.

I'll agree with the recommendation for a scope mount and not just a set of rings. Burris makes a PEPR mount that is a good value without spending LaRue money.

The dimensions and rise of the Burris PEPR are almost identical with the mount I have on there now. If I were to change it out it would be a lateral move IMO.
I might be good. I might have just been over thinking things.
