Hello, I wanted to know what do I do with the parts that are greasy before I put them together?

Did your parts kit come with directions? If not, try reading this thread at AR15.com: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/226782 ... ions_.htmlx007x wrote:What is the exact thing I need to do?
A good guide for builds right there. The Annoyed Man wrote:Did your parts kit come with directions? If not, try reading this thread at AR15.com: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/226782 ... ions_.htmlx007x wrote:What is the exact thing I need to do?
So if you're going to grease them again, why degrease them in the first place?texasmusic wrote:Degrease 'em and grease 'em back up!
I give all the LPK pieces besides trigger and hammer a finger coat of bearing grease. You won't be cleaning these parts during your routine... protect them from corrosion and wear long term.
I was under the impression he was going to degrease them so I was trying to inject a little humor. ala 3 stooges (Wake up and go to sleep!)74novaman wrote:So if you're going to grease them again, why degrease them in the first place?texasmusic wrote:Degrease 'em and grease 'em back up!

Am I being dumb or does there seem like an extra couple of steps here......
Gotcha. I guess that makes sense...wouldn't leave cosmolene in a gun, so parts should be cleaned then regreased...just seemed like a work harder, not smarter situation at first.texasmusic wrote:I was under the impression he was going to degrease them so I was trying to inject a little humor. ala 3 stooges (Wake up and go to sleep!)74novaman wrote:So if you're going to grease them again, why degrease them in the first place?texasmusic wrote:Degrease 'em and grease 'em back up!

Wouldn't hurt to leave them greased and put 'em in I suppose. I just don't know what they're using at the factory so I use something with good lubricity and corrosion protection that I know will work. Some places use a preservative type grease that is more of a sticky substance than good 'ol slick wheel bearing grease.
Wait, you're supposed to CLEAN AKs??JeepGuy79 wrote:was it a used military kit or something? It's been a while since I built an AR, but I don't remember getting any greasy parts... Now AK parts.... mmmm. I love the smell of cosmoline on my hands.
