Question about 'stun guns'

Post by DaveT »

A person I know is thinking about carrying a 'stun gun' for self defense. He has no CHL and has no intent to get one.

My question about this is:

Is a 'stun gun' legal to carry in Texas without a training or a license ?

If it is not, could someone point me to the law that covers it ?

Thanks !

Per 46.01, there is no definition of the term and or regulation on the purchase or use...

It appears to be legal to carry for civilians...

I am not a lawyer...obviously...

But I did find a quick link:

Yep, its legal. No license required, but I would recommend training. I wouldn't want to get "bitten" by my own stunner.

I keep one handy for those grey areas where lethal force may not be necessary, but a good zapping would be.

Proper training and mindset is important for effective use of these devices, since this is hand-to-hand combat ranges, just as if using fists or knives.
