Teflon/Moly oven cure finish, anyone tried this?

Post by fm2 »

Does anyone have a gun coated with Brownell's Teflon/Moly oven cure finish? If so could you post a pic? How has it been holding up for you?

Years ago I tried it on some magazines. It actually holds up pretty well.

Be forewarned, it does "build up" some...so tolerances/clearances will be affected. In the end...I had those magazines nickle plated, I had a devil of a time removing the T/M finish.

Personally, I would not use it on the entirety of a firearm, but the stuff does work.

I was reading up on that last night on Brownells with an eye to coating a S&W M10. I recently cold-blued it with the Birchwood Casey stuff. It turned out OK, but the high spots are already worn off from the holster.

Sure would like to see what it looks like in person before I go to all that trouble.

I hear ya Rex.

My buddy has used the green on a shotgun and black on some other guns. He said it held up really well. I am sure it is like with most finishes, good metal prep is the key. I would like to see some other colors if possible.

He is working on a Makarov for me, and I was thinking about a 2 tone finish. Maybe the coyote for the frame and black for the slide.
