Traveling through Washington DC an active duty soldier who was wounded stops by Walter Reed and is arrested for having unregistered guns. $10,000 worth of guns seized and not returned by DC police. He is shortly off on his third tour.

Terrible - couldn't this have been avoided if he didn't consent to a vehicle search?

Wow. Shameful behavior of the US Attorneys Office (but what do you expect).
A big double Poo on the MPD. And I hope Mr. Gardiner (sp?) will persue the issue of getting
the Lt's property returned asap.
I'm sure this incident makes him wonder exactly what freedoms he represents and what
freedoms he's fighting for................. :mad5

Probably. But like many on this board.... he consented. Because the PoPo are our friends and he didn't think
he was doing anything illegal.

Exactly... I've never been asked to search my vehicle but, up until now, I always would have said "yes" because I've never had anything to hide. After seeing this I've changed my outlook. I will never consent to a search of any kind. You just never know what kind of LEO you will get, what kind of city/county/etc you are in. You just might be the person they try and use to make an example of.

I'm still upset at the police telling him he can only have weapons in DC in his home. The problem here is that his home is not in DC and he was passing through. How do they think people get their guns home? This is terrible and I hope he does get his guns back and they don't turn up accidentally destroyed due to a clerical error.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Hopefully the new congress next year will pointedly direct DC to honor the 2nd Amendment, or cut off funding until they do.
