Zimmerman's Bail Revoked

Post by gdanaher »

The news station is reporting this afternoon that Z's bond has been revoked and is ordering him to surrender within 48 hours.. What a deal. All this because apparently people donated too much money to his defense fund?! Living at the county jail could keep him from ever seeing a trial date. Shameful.

This is the worst revocation reason ever. makes me sick at our legal system. He has not violated the conditions of his bond. He did not skip the country and they say he has a second passport. Big deal, ask him to turn it in.

If the terms of your bail are to "surrender your passport" and then you surrender only one of the two passports in your possession (you have two because you "thought you lost" the first one  )..... You should expect to have your chain pulled pretty hard.

Zimmerman is an idiot for thinking he could hold on to his second passport and not get caught.
"I forgot I had a second one" is a not-gonna-fly excuse here.

Bail revoked = Correct, IMO.

You can bet he'll get a new bail set at a higher amount.

I followed your link but I don't see where the article claims Zimmerman said he thought he lost or forgot he had another passport? In the article in your link there is another link that says this:
Prosecutors also said Zimmerman had failed to surrender a second passport, but the judge dismissed that concern as the equivalent of someone who has lost a driver's license, applies for a new one and then finds the old driver's license.
So, not only do I not see any such quote attributed to Zimmerman, the other article says the judge dismiised any concern about a second passport.

This is what I am afraid of for him. The prosecutions case is going to bits, every scrap of evidence that comes out is in favor of Zimmerman. The prosecutor herself likely violated the law when she did not include exculpatory evidence in the request for an indictment. Everything that comes out about Martin is so bad it is unbelievable and to the point that the parents and Crump should be charged with destroying evidence for wiping Trayvon's you tube page and face book accounts.

So they know they have no case, will likely face extreme embarrassment, and they are going for jailhouse justice so that this never comes to trial.

This is nothing new BTW, they knew about these funds just after the bond hearing---that leads me to ask--why did they decide to make an issue of it now? Was it because Zimmerman just hired another VERY good attorney. Hmmmmm.....makes one wonder.

It's entirely possible they're hoping to erase their problems by setting him up for a free lance execution. As far as the timing goes, it may just be to keep negative publicity on Zimmerman in the news. Or maybe they got orders from Holder to get Zimmerman back into the system where he can be taken care of Chicago style.

Interesting.... If I was the judge, I'd be more peeved about the hidden passport...
Seriously... does anyone believe that Zimmerman didn't know he had another passport.?

The way it reads, I found myself assuming that he turned in the original and kept the replacement, but, that is also not clear.

I didn't check. Did Judge Ito move to Florida?

Much ado about nothing, IMO. He goes back to jail. The judge chastises Zimmerman and increases his bail. Zimmerman posts bail and goes home. :tiphat:

If he shows up after posting a $15,000 bail and didn't skip then why raise it? Political pressure...he would have skipped by now if he was and as far as I an concerned he should... I would. $135,000 + a passport... and looking at jail time... see ya!

It seems the question is revolving around if he knew about the money that came in from his website.

The judge seems to think that Zimmerman knew about the money even when he claimed he didnt' have any.
"In revoking the bond, Judge Lester said Zimmerman, who is currently in hiding, shouldn’t be able to benefit from “material falsehoods.” The judge also immediately placed Zimmerman under a “no bond” status,"

"During the hearing, prosecutors introduced several recordings of telephone conversations between Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, made while he was in jail. In one such recording, they can be heard speaking cryptically about a second passport in his possession. Zimmerman was ordered by the judge to hand over his passport so he couldn’t flee the country, but Zimmerman applied for a second passport after the shooting, saying his first one had been stolen.

In other recordings Zimmerman’s wife, who testified at his bond hearing, called him from a credit union where she had an account linked to the “Real George Zimmerman” Pay Pal account, which at the time had about $130,000 in it. Prosecutors contend that she was “intimately involved in the deposit and transfer of funds and money into various accounts.”"

I put the passport quote in here since it's being discussed but I was really looking at the money issue. Evidence was looking in his favor but this stuff may just give more weight to the prosecuter claiming Z's word is no good.

I think the whole passport thing is bogus -turning in a passport is mostly a symbolic gesture. If they send his passport number to all airports and other transporation routes leaving the country, it doesn't really matter is he has a piece of paper, they would still prevent him from leaving the country.

Point 1
Lester accused Zimmerman of having misrepresented how much money he had when his bond was originally set in April. Prosecutors say he had $135,000 at the time Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, told the court, under oath, that they were indigent.
point 2
Zimmerman spoke of the second passport while in the Seminole County Jail in a phone call to his wife that authorities recorded, Corey said. Court records provided a partial transcript:
Source cnn.com

He lied, and he payed the price. He will likely be given another hearing and granted bail, had he been honest in the first plea this would't have happened. Actually had he stayed in his truck like the police dispatch told him too and not followed Trevon he could of avoided this all together.

It doesn't matter what the procescutor claims about the bail hearing. That "evidence" will never be heard by a jury.
